So I got my die set for 30-30. Have a quick question.

The Hodgdon website lists H4895 for 170 GR. SIE FP. I have Sierra 170 GR. Flat Nose.

What is the difference between the two bullets?

Thanks 243. I ordered these bullets direct from Sierra themselves and I hadn't seen the FP listed, so I was assuming that they were 1 in the same.

I was actually wanting the 150 Gr. bullet but they didn't have any in stock at the time.

That bullet should shoot well with H4895. Even better with 3031 in my '94.

The SIE FP in the manual = Sierra Flat Point and is the same bullet you bought. The data was developed with your bullet so you should have no problems with that load. I usually use IMR3031 but H4895 will also work well as will IMR4064.

I use 3031 myself for my Marlin 336, My 94and my TC Contender as well...

But you should get good results with what you have!

Here is some favorite Data that I have for Hornady:

170 grain JFP (Hornady Jacketed Flat Point)
IMR 4895 31.5 gr. 2,045 FPS
IMR 3031 32.0 gr. 2,120
H4895 32.0 gr. 2,212
748 32.0 gr. 2,145

I also like the Winchester 748 for heavier bullets.

I used your 4895 in 125 gr hollow point as well and really liked it out of my Marlin.
38.0 gr. 2,400fps

(Disclaimer: :scrutiny:)

Thanks everyone. I'm using the H4895 'cause it's what my dad uses for both 30-06 and .308 Winchester.

I've used H4895 with the 160gr Hornady FTX bullet and IMR3031 with 150gr Speer RN. Both powders work very well in 20" carbine barrels.

H335 works well for the Sierra and FTX, but you may lose a few fps.
Just tried H2005 carbine bullets with Unique. Good practice round. No recoil and at 50 yds, shoot 1.5 " group with 20 mph tail wind and just a front bag. Groupings with FTX and Sierra were about the same, the same day. I was tired after 200 rnds of 40.
