I found a bag of these 30 cal accelerators for shooting .224 bullets I thought about reloading them for my Ruger Blackhawk in 30 carbine .Just wondering if anyone else has ever done this.

When Remington came out with the Accelerator, they had to seal the "bullet" into the case using electric induction because that was the only way they could get enough resistance to burn the powder. They didn't give bad groups, but never as good as the original caliber, I got 5" groups out of a .30-'06 that would shoot under an inch with good regular ammo. Later, I tried some of those commercial sabots and for whatever reason could never get any kind of groups. I suspect that the problem was the one Remington found, but can't be sure of that. Of course, the gunzines had no problem hitting field mice at 5 miles, but then they could always shoot better than I can, at least in print.

There are warnings not to fire them out of barrels with muzzle devices because the sabot can seperate and impact causing damage. I don't know if this could be an issue with them going from the cylinder, then through the forcing cone.

I think 7.62 Nato has a valid point.

But I don't know?

I have never heard of anyone using plastic .30 cal sabots in a revolver.

But there is a lot of things going on the cylinder and forcing cone that don't go on in a rifle.

If you try it, proceed carefully working up a load.

Back when I had a TC Encore in 500S&W I tried a .40cal bullet in a .50 size sabot. The idea being to get more velocity to carry out better to 100 and 200 yards without so much drop. It was a dismal failure as far as accuracy went. Likely related to issues of bullet weight not matching the barrel twist and possibly the sabot skidding on the rifling since it's not a barrel that is optimized for use with sabots.

So I would not expect good things from this idea even if it did prove to be save to shoot in the gun.
