Is there a safe out there that is no more than 300 pounds that holds 30 long guns? If you know of one please tell me who makes it. Thanks

Sentry and Stack On both make gun safes that weigh less than 300 pounds. For something large enough to hold 30 guns, it would have to be uninsulated, and made of fairly light gauge steel.

And it won't weight 300 pounds after you put 30 guns in it if floor loading is your consideration.

I live on the 2nd floor of a condo. I'm not worried about theft to much. I have a lot of retired neighbors in my building. I'm more concerned about rust. So the wall thickness isn't a concern but weight is. I'm going to check out Dick's sporting goods. I know they have some stack in safes. Thanks.

@Rc I'm going to try to find a wider safe. That way it will be spread over more area and beams.

Are you more worried about dragging it up the stairs yourself, or it falling through the floor? If you're worried about the weight on the floor, you can go a lot heavier than 300 pounds before you have to start worrying.

I would bet that you just standing there on one foot is placing more than 300 psf on the floor. If you won't fall through, neither will a slightly heavier safe.

My safe empty is 500 lbs. I've never brought it home yet. I have planned on it for awhile now. Some say don't do it and some say it'll be fine. I don't know what to do!

I've been in the safe business since 1990, and have never seen a safe weighing less than 1,500 pounds fall through a floor outside of the building being on fire or blown apart in a storm.

That doesn't mean that you should put a 1,500 pound safe there, but a 500 pound safe is no problem at all. A bath tub will hold anywhere from 40 to 60 gallons of water at 8.3 pounds per gallon. That's 332 to 500 pounds not counting the occupant of the tub. I've never heard of a tub falling through either. ;)

Your 500 pound safe will be fine so long as you're not filling it up with gold bricks.

Thanks for the input guy's. Guess Ill go for broke and put it in there. My back hurts just thinking about it.

At 500lbs you're almost talking about the average weight of a refrigerator. There are refers on 2nd floors right? Including contents, no one worries about those do they?

Maybe not. A quick Google search came up with this "A typical refrigerator weighs around 200 pounds, although older models often weigh around 250 pounds; some refrigerators can even weigh up to 500 pounds." It may be wrong but still, at average 200lbs plus all the jazz one puts in them I'm sure it gets heavy. You can have a few people that weigh over 200lbs on the second floor, in close proximity, without ill effects right?

@Tx I see what your sayings and appreciate the info. I'm going to keep it and give it a shot. I just don't want anyone to get hurt. Better to play the caution card and do a little inquiring. I feel better about it after talking to you guys about it. Thank you.

I put this one on a second floor this summer. What you're looking at in the photo is a sun room, which in my opinion, wouldn't have had as much support as the floor inside of the house. It didn't fall through either, and it's a lot heavier than 500 pounds.

My Winchester 24-gun (so it more likely holds 16 long guns comfortably, and which is completely fine) safe from Tractor Supply weighed 509 lbs empty. I rented an appliance dolly from U-haul (DAMN good use of $15) and my brother and my 16 YO (6+' tall) nephew helped get it out of my wife's minvan, where it has sat for 2 weeks. Around to the back yard. Up on the deck, off the deck, down 5-6 steps, and through my basement into my work room. It was back-breaking work, but it is in place, working flawlessly, and I'm very happy with it. Someday I'll secure it to the concrete floor, but for now I have excellent peace of mind. A serious safe/RSC cracker with appropriate tools could get into it of course. But it would take time and planning. And 3-4 guys and an appliance dolly to get it out. So it should "defeat" any casual, and even somewhat determined thief.
