my best with my 300 wm is .715 @ 300 yds 5 shot group. ill bet my dollar someone has beat that with a .308 in this thread. and I bet there's worse. any caliber in the right hands will be deadly accurite. you just selct the case size for the muzzle energy you need, just buy whatever calibers and scopes that make you happy.

new member here, but I've read through this entire thread and its pretty obvious to see that this kid has no clue what he's talking about, sorry jake, but the "nuh-uh" approach to having an intelligent conversation about the pros and cons of certain caliber doesn't really work...but then again, if you're not trying to have an intelligent conversation, go talk ballistics with the rest of the kids in your school who want to spend $45+ a box on short mag ammo and rip on their fathers who still carry their "obsolete" 308s, 30-30s etc into the woods and have 10 times as much time in the woods/on the range as your short career. That being said, I don't carry a 30-30 when chasing down deer anymore, and I took a very nice buck with a 22-250 this year and another with a 30-06, but I will tell you that when looking at long range accuracy, there's a reason that our snipers shoot 308s and they're still shot in nearly every 1000yd competition...they are an incredible round and have been for a long long long time...

sorry for the rant, but as a relatively young shooter myself even though I have 10 years on jake, I hate to see kids running their mouths and ruining the chance for other kids to come here and gain important knowledge because the established members have grown tired of being called idiots by children

Clearly this thread is generating a lot more heat than light.

Jake, if you're honestly interested in learning about the fundamentals of marksmanship, it would behoove you to do some more research and/or actually get out to the range rather than simply making nonsensical and irrational posts, and insulting other members who actually have real-world experience with long-range rifle marksmanship.
