Does anyone have any clue as to why there would be a shortage at this point of this brass? I have looked everywhere for some match ammo for a class I am taking in December. I have looked for the past 6 months and nothing. I have even checked reloaders and have even checked with people like Hornady since I kind of work in the industry. The word is that the brass for this round is scarce. Really? Is there that many people out there buying up .308 at this point in the game? You would think after 6 months time that they would have caught up with demand especially considering I can find 9mm and .223 and stuff all day long now. You would think if there was a problem with getting any of the rounds it would be those more popular ones like the .223/5.56, 9mm, etc. Argh. I may have to back out and lose my deposit on this class for lack of ammo.

gb right now has for sale brass ( ~25 cents each) and sierra bullets ( ~25 cents each) so if you can assemble your own there are the necessaries available. battle packs are selling in the dollar/round area.

7.62x51 ammunition and brass have been in short supply since 2008. They didn't recover after the first Obama panic the way other calibers did, and after Sandy Hook, this caliber is basically non-existent.

I've got ~1000 loaded rounds of it, about 400 cases, and plenty of powder, primers and projectiles, but I'm sitting on it and not shooting until supply opens up from the current trickle.

What kind of course are you signed up for? How many rounds do you need?

There was a rumor of some action by the Fed to eliminate the selling of once-fired mil-surp brass to commercial reloaders (like one of the GA makers where this news originated). Supposedly, the government was going to destroy the brass at a high cost, and sell it at a loss rather than sell it to commercial reloaders. I do not know if it ever came to pass, but if it has, that might be one of the reasons

I'm confused. Are you having a problem finding ammo or brass? Walkalong put up a couple of links I'm familiar with, though it is once-fired milsurp brass. Cabela's has Lapua brass in .308. MidwayUSA has it also, as well has some Hornady Match Reloading Brass.

On the other hand, I see a lot of "match grade" .308 ammo listed as "in stock" via gunbot. Either way, brass or ammo, it is out there.
