I want one,i found a brass frame,but I'm not sure about using 777 3f in it,@200.00 i think id rather hold out for a Steele frame,any load data available,or suggestions in not interested in a conversion ,so if it wont stretch the frame id go for the brass frame,gimmie yer 2 cents please:D......thanx

I don't think the brasser will stretch much with anything of a BP nature, even 777. BUT, I ain't gonna swear to that. The gun, though, just doesn't hold much powder. I have loaded a full charge behind a cast 60 grain conical in my brass framed ASM Remmy for chronographing and get 900 fps. Now, same gun loaded with a round ball (00 buck, actually) over a full charge of pyrodex only pushes about 700 fps. I've shot my brasser moderately, probably only about 500 rounds through it, the vast majority of that using pyrodex with round ball, some conical, but ball loads easier. It's still as tight as ever, nice little gun. I don't bother with downloading it, but I don't shoot a lot of 777 in it, either, just what I've done, a few cylinders full, testing. If I had to carry that gun, 777 load and conical is what I'd carry in it. It's sorta pathetic with Pyrodex.

Not a lot of help, just my two cents. BTW, I gave $62.50 for mine ordered from Gander Mountain on sale 20 years ago when they still had a mail order catalog. Guess the price of those things has gone up. :D I just ordered it because I wanted another gun and I'd seen "Pale Rider". After I got it, I realized Eastwood was using a Colt .31 :banghead:, but hell, it went well with my ROA. Didn't have a .44 Remmy at the time, either. :D

Didn't he also have a Colt .31 in his pocket or in a shoulder holster?

I don't know, thought it was a pocket remmy when I ordered my .31 and saw the movie again (have it on VHS) after getting my .31 and when he shot Marshal Stockburn in the forehead, I coulda sworn it was an open top. I think maybe the prop guys were swapping things around here and there. :rolleyes:

I've been wanting a pocket Rem but can't decide between brass, nickel plated, and blue steel frame.

big ars correct thats a flat top 1858 pocket clints got

But you say they dont make that replica?no say it isnt so,are you sure,.......cause now I gotta have one.or something close.......mc gunner" 900 fps is very respectable but arent you supposed to use 88 grain conicals,and is the buc shot .315 dia? is that 66 grain?

Me too, it is my next cabalas purchase for sure.

I am interested in a conversion so I will go with the steel but from what I've heard there is still much custom work involved in getting things right. Even if ya don't I'm told the loading lever on the Piettas has serious problems.

Any first hand info on that would be appreciated as I am on the clicky here to spend money as we speak....

Love these lil guns and gotta have one either way.

maybe an uberti ss pocket remmie

To bad bill ruger didn't build a mini r o a.....but somebody should make a coil spring set?oh well that's another black powder pipe dream.............:rolleyes: I hear cabelas will keep tryin till they get you satisfied,but why do they cost more than the 1858 5 in barrell which is on sale for 179.00,they must be harder to manufacture..........

00 is .33 caliber and it shaves quite a bit of lead. I think 0 buck would be better, but I have these 00 12 gauge loads sitting around collecting rust. :D

Not sure what's SUPPOSED to be used for conicals, but the brass mold I got from Dixie tosses a 60 grainer, at least on my scales. It also tosses a PROPER round ball which I've shot quite a few of, too. :D I'm not sure what the round ball weighs, don't recall weighing it. I could run out in the garage, but I'm in my long johns and it's COLD out there. :D

Just for info, you got me curious and I bought a steel frame .32 remington/Pietta:
Bullet=hornady 32(.315), Powder=Swiss 1 black powder (full chamber...)
Velocity=>1180fps!!! Energy=> 147ft/lbs...

Very nice toy...:cool:

Oddly enough, this pistol was offered with two cylinders back in the day. One was a percussion and the other was for a rimfire cartridge. The cartridge cylinder had a backplate design that the conversions are using now, but the new ones are adapted for centerfire of course. Some things never REALLY change do they?

Fun facts form an oldman...

How about an accuracy report? If you take 5 grains out of the 'bubba' load, does accuracy improve?

I've found accuracy best with round ball and it shoots more to POA. I get about 7 or 8" paper plate groups from the bench at 25 yards, best I can do trying different loads of Pyrodex. Just as good with a full cylinder as with a partial load. Hell, if you get too light, you can see the ball in flight! I only get around 750 fps with ball and a full charge of Pyrodex.

I replaced the bead on mine with a trimmed brazing rod for a front sight as it shot REALLY high when I got it. And don't tell me a pocket .31 is regulated for 75 yards. :rolleyes:

Shouldn't be that hard to push such a tiny, light little ball to 1000fps. ;-) I'm not surprised at the 750-900-1000fps velocities at all.

he actually used a 58 remington pocket pistol something that isnt reproduced

Is it basically an 186 Remington with a trigger guard? Cause that seems rather easy to make. In fact I'm thinking about making one. I'll of course need to get a 63' pocket, I could probably just cast the trigger guard and polish it up. I've got a forge to do that.

No, the one with the triggerguard was called the "New Model Police" (.36 percussion and .38 rimfire) and is bigger than the tiny .31 pocket pistol we all know and love.

I'm not a sharpshooter... well... not even a good shooter... but I remained in the piece of wood aimed at 30 feet (7" square). (I have not tried at 25 yards...)

I have been very surprised myself by the velocity measured... but the energy is not incredible, as the bullet is very light. It is in the same range as modern .32.

I think Swiss 1 powder (pure black powder, made within the same plant since 1853...) is as efficient as your 777... it is a pity I can't buy 777 here to try it.(though I just bought 2kg of Swiss 1 yesterday, ten miles from home...)

I don't believe the Police 36/38 has ever been reproduced. Pale Rider's 38 Police was an original one. ;-)
