I finally located a 4" SP101 in 32 Mag and should receive it next week. I currently have a 2" SP101 in 357 and I shoot the heck out of it. I've ordered a Wolff spring kit and some Starline brass and I'm really looking forward to shooting this little revolver.

I plan on trying some 95gr and 115gr hard casts at 950-1150fps to see where the sights print elevation-wise. I'd like to work up a rather stout load that I can settle on for regular woods carry. Somthing suitable to pot a bunny or a grouse but with enough oomph to put a coon or coyote down. I've got some LilGun & Unique to start with. I've been looking at Penn Bullet hard casts but will probably pick up some jacketed Speers or Sierras at Sportsman's Warehouse to start with. I'd appreciate hearing about any experiences with this cartridge that others here might want to share.

I used to have a Ruger single action in .32 mag with a 51/2 barrel. It was a great little gun . I mostly used 115 gr hard cast with gas checks. I don't remember the load data, but it clocked right around 1000 fps and was dead accurate. Before it was lost in a divorce it accounted for lots of small game, a goose at 125 paces, and a 7 point buck atabout 30 paces. Hit him in the shoulder joint and he was drt.

Sportsmans Warehouse had some Black Hills 90gr cast loads so I picked up a couple of boxes of that. Looks like Black Hills uses Starline brass, so that's a plus. I also picked up a box of 500 Meister cast bullets (94gr RNFP I believe). So now I just have to wait for the revolver to get here. I think this little 32 is going to be a hoot to shoot.

I have a Ruger SP-101 w/4" barrel in 32 H&R mag. Mine likes 85 and 100 gr Hornady HP/XTP's with Lil Gun. The lead bullets do okay but the jacketed bullets are more accurate out of mine.
I brought Federal ammo (85 gr HP's) and used the brass, Federal primers (small pistol) and usually Lil Gun.

Had a 4 in SP101 in 32 mag for several years, untill finally finding a Adj site 6 1/2 in single six. The Sp101 was bought new, and liked it . Couple observations, that may help.

The rear site is adj for windage only, and there are 3 different front site heights available for Sp 101s. had to change out my front site (to taller one) to get elevation close at 25 yds. Got the front site from Brownels, it needed drilled for retaining pin.

Started shooting jacketed bullets first, and after 100 rounds the velocitys increased almost 75 fps. The stainless barrel needed breaking in, something to maybe consider if starting out with lead bullets.

Hodgen lists loads with Lil-gun. When working up heavy loads, got best accuracy with Speer's 100 gn and Hdy 85 jhp's. Definity controllable, but similiar recoil that other Sp101's other caliber with equivalent energy loads.

Tried a max Speer 100 gn/Lil-gun load on a water jug. Unfortunately was standing to close to the jug and got soaked.:banghead:

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I hadn't considered that the jacketed slugs might help polish the bore a little quicker. I'll have to pick up a couple of boxes of XTPs to load up early on. I'll also be breaking out the JB polish.

Kinda figured that LilGun would be a good powder to settle on but I'll still probably go with some Unique and hard casts for plinking and range fun. Good point on the front sight height as well. I wonder how the Gemini gold dot front sight would work with the rear blade that comes stock?. I'll have to take a look at it and see if it's possible to fab up a replacement blade with a shallow V. I don't suppose that it will accept the replacement rear blades that fit the Redhawk/GP100 rear sights? That would make too much sense...
