You cant compare MV only. Ever. Not when debating the effectiveness of a round on game. So much more goes into play.

Yes, the .35 Rem is a great round. Maybe a bit less powerful than desired for really big critters, but certainly adequate for most situations, and more than adequate for most of those.

I like the 30-30. The 170 grain load will penetrate elk ect. Completely (sometimes same as.35Rem) but leaves a 1/2" exit when it does.The 150grain 30-30 load is alot flatter shooting to 200 yards and works great on deer sized game BTW it is my truck gun.

but if you look at he the ballistics posted they are comparing the 30-30 and the .35 rem BOTH pushing a 200 grain and even though the 30-30 is pushing a 200 grain bullet and the 30-30 does it better.

modern loaders can improve the .35 beyond the 30-30. hornady currently lists good .35 load as does buffalo bore. both out do perform the 30-30's in 150 grain. i will conceed that .35 rem can be better than 30-30 in a good loading. but i just dont think its a 4 legged defense "woods gun" maybe i have the wrong definition of an Alaskan woods gun?
