Ive been a huge fan of the .35 Whelen for years. Well Im retired now and have the time to step up the game...my thought is to neck down a .375 H&H or a .416 rem to accommodate a .35 partition.
I might be working on a solution that does not have a problem but Ive got it on the brain and have had for a few years so one way or the other its gonna happen.
Neither myself or my friends can find anything on that particular wildcat or anybody who has attempted it....Maybe Im using the wrong nomenclature or maybe its not been done I dont know at this point but would greatly appreciate any information or knowledge on the subject anybody can provide.
Im thinking it should hit harder than a .338 and shoot flatter than a .375 and make a damn nice bear or moose gun....Thanks in advance..Lee

It has, for all intents and purposes, already been done in the 358 STA and 358 Norma as @LoonWulf says.

If you want to try something slightly different, necking down a 375 Ruger to 35 has not been commercialized yet. It is beltless and as such will have higher case capacity than a similar cartridge based in a belted case like the 358 STA and 358 Norma. It may give better or equal performance because if this compared to it s longer brethren such what the 375 Ruger does compared to the 375 H&H.

Along those lines..... You could use 33 Nosler case And that would give you almost the exact same capacity as a full-length improved h&h case which the 358 STA is based on.
My experience with the 28 Nosler compared to the 7 MM STW (same cases in comparison) suggest that the performance would be nearly identical, but with the shorter Nosler case you could load longer bullets out farther, taking advantage of 3.7 inch magazines.

You could also build from any of the guns chambered in Nosler cartridges which would give you some extra options.
And should you be desiring a 3.3+/- length cartridge, then the nosler case gives you about as much performance as you can cram into that size action.

Honestly I had not given the longer bullet idea much thought, but indeed it should be a consideration and I am not adverse to the longer magnum actions at all.

Any case you choose tho (full-length improved belted, or long-action fatty), you should end up with a 250gr bullet at about 3000fps.....thats no joke lol.

Ill also say that 2900ish fps with my 270gr bullets is noticeably snappier than 2850....and a whole different experience than 2700.

A .35 running 3000 fps is indeed no joke and at the moment I cant think of anything it would not take down. With the possible exception of Gonzilla.

The .358 Norma Mag, mentioned above by Mr. Loonwulf, remains one of the most underappreciated (Read unknown) calibers in the rifle firmament. I recommend it for anyone who has a good M98 Mauser action he wants to build something worthwhile on. I had this one built a few years ago and it has proven to be a one-shot killer on moose. Right about what the Newton got (according to the ads, anyways). Ahead of its time, in any case.

Thanks for that, was completely unaware of Newton or his cartridge...just spent a couple of hours looking it up...Im probably trying to reinvent the wheel and thats ok...if I can come up with a .35 going 3k+ delivering .5 moa in a controlled round action, then Ill be a happy camper. Im sure its entirely possible, like most things in life it just consumes time and money. Again thanks, any new knowledge is a good thing.

I’m a .35 cal fan and started a thread a while back on a similar idea. I still have the itch

Some good information in that thread, Right now Im leaning toward necking down a .416 which one I have not decided. I dont have a problem with a magnum size action so Im thinking H&H as it should hold more powder and you can get the brass but the Remington might make a more practical choice.
