Was looking at barreling up for a large caliber and was interested what kind of long range performance anyone may have gotten or have witnessed with the .375 diameter cartridges. Was thinking .375 H&H or .378 Weatherby magnum, just wasn't able to find a whole lot of info on shooting past 300 yards or so.

I know it would be more advisable to go with a .338 something or other, as bullet selection is excellent and more affordable (comparatively) but figured it might be worth asking this question:

Is someone making extra high BC bullets in .375 that would provide usable performance out to 1,000 yards, give or take a couple hundred yards? If so, do you have any knowledge in regards to the end performance when compared to similar .338 diameter cartridges, wildcats and factory chamberings alike?

Yes, but they're designed for the .375 Chey-Tac, which uses 130-140 gr. powder charge. The .375 RUM and .378 Weatherby cases are a little small to move those 350 and 375 grainers fast enough for extreme range. And the 375 H&H? Definitely not enough oomph.

Also, bullets that big and heavy aren't necessary for 1,000 yard work. A .300 mag (pick one) will do just fine.

Maybe I'll pick up some of the 350 VLD's and see how they shoot in my .375 RUM, though. I'll let you know (once my shoulder heals enough to type after firing them out of a 7 pound rifle). Might be awhile, though, as they're $3 per bullet

The 375 H&H and 378 Wby are both excellent and accurate cartridges, but were not intended as long range cartridges. As others have suggested go with a 300 mag of your choice or with the 7MM STW as I have.

375 rum

i am new i shoot a 375 rum excellent round your post about high bc for 375 caught my eye i use barnes tsx falls out at about 600yds please let me know what you find i have shot a few 375 calibres and ultra mag is by far the best very very predictable thanke for any replies

Welcome to THR, mjyeagle.

I know from reading that there are some 350gr .375 bullets designed for long range target use. I don't know what they have for a BC, but the .338 300gr Berger Hybrid lists their BC at .891, which is the highest commercial bullet BC that I'm aware of at this time.

Post some targets sometime to show what that RUM can do.

My rifle is a rem 700 sendaro 375 rum improved (tejas) with a 31" brux barrel 1-10" twist. The 300 load is 111 grains of IMR 7828 ssc at a velocity of 3200 fps. the sierra 350 smk load is 108 grains of reloader 25 at a velocity of 3005 fps. Im still searching for the perfect load as the reloader 25 has a little too slow of a burn rate . I cant get enough rl 25 in the case .
