I made a quick trip to the range today. The weather was fine, a nice break from the heat we've been enduring. No one else was there, so I had a chance to do some close range drills.
The main reason for the trip was to shoot my latest acquisition, a Smith & Wesson M15-4 snubnose. There are a couple of interesting things about it. One is that it is has adjustable sights. Another is the finish, the frame is parkerized and the hammer, trigger, and cylinder are chrome plated. I like odd ball guns, and shiny ones, so the M15 got to me big time.
I started shooting standing, two-handed with my 158 grain reloads at five yards. The M15 shot to point of aim at that range and I put 18 rounds into about four inches. Two fliers out to the right bumped the group to that size. The other 16 rounds were within a ragged group of two inches by two inches.
I also shot it from standing at 50 feet. Groups were slightly bigger there but good enough to please me. The last thing I did was shoot six head shots on a home-made cardboard silhouette. All were within the five inch head.
I also tried some of the Speer 135 grain Gold Dot "Short Barrel" loads. They also shot to point of aim and were accurate at five yards and 50 feet.
I then did some short range practice with my M649 snubs. Although the M15 was easier to shoot I was having a good day shooting my pocket guns too. One of the 649s shot the Speer load very well. The other just OK. Both hit just about at point of aim with it so, if I can find more, it may be my new carry load.
It was a good, though short, trip today. I came home smiling.
