My accuracy load in .38spl is a Hornady 140gr FP lead bullet over 4.2gr AA#2. Works quite well, a bit dirty though (Hornady's lube is pretty bad for smoke and dirt), and very light recoil.
I've used a lot of W231/HP-38 for all my .38 Special rounds but recently I've been using Clays. I'm not sure if I'll change over completely to Clays but I might. Both produce very accurate and clean rounds.
Alliant American Select works very well. 4.1 grains with a 158 gr. LSWC gives me 825-850 fps with a very low standard deviation. I also use this powder in .45 ACP.
