380 vs 38 special

So what Greg means is, there really are no flies on the old .22l.r.? …. So we should all be EDC-ing one instead of what we pack right now.

If you take time to read, and comprehend, the factual data from Mr Ellifritz you would see that most handgun calibers suck and they incapacitate the aggressor at about the same rate. What you decide on what to carry is your business, and I truly don’t care. I carry what I want, nor do I think it should keep you up at night fretting about it either.

Mas Ayoob wrote in a very good and down to earth article in an ancient manuscript called COMBAT HANDGUNS, “a wad cutter through the eye produces better results than a Black Talon in the foot.”

Indeed. ;)

However, lots of folks like to 'find' their confidence in something that comes in a box, meaning a particular gun, caliber or ammo, rather than look at themselves and frankly evaluate their ability to put hits where they might most matter.

I've sometimes wondered whether some gun or ammo company might sometime think to try including a lucky charm (like a rabbits' foot), talisman or a religious medallion with each new gun or box of ammo. :p

Indeed! I always fall back to the short story THE 51st DRAGON when I read threads like these.

I’ve never understood the “rabbits foot” for good luck.

It’s not like it did the rabbit any good!
I like getting extra mags. Or tools.
Forget the trinkets.

I can say that I don't care much for the 380 Auto in terms of performance, however it's very hard to beat it for a small pocket option. The LCP MAX holds between 11-13rds of 380 vs. 5 in a small 38 Special, and it's easier to shoot and reload. If it's 7rds vs 5rds, I still think the platform advantage goes to the 380 but with 13rds vs. 5rds, there's no comparison.

IMG_20230507_182902958.jpg What if I loaded two 75 grain wadcutters (the little ones in the picture) into a .38 Special case. And what if they print right next to each other at 7-10 yards? Would that be like a .380 double tap?

I already seat one of them over some #7 shot for snake/varmint loads.

I would guess what incapacitates the most is the idea of being shot. But after that I would prefer at least a moderate sized caliber in case the idea of being shot was not enough. As for .380 or .38 I carry the.38 far more often. As the idea of that works for me
