4 Inch New Service / ever marketed by colt?

The blue book has on occasion shown a photo of a late model Colt New Service with what appears to be a 31/2-4 inch bbl.Was this a standard catalog item or a custom rebarrel?What might this be worth in either case?TOM HORN?

I've only seen one in person and it was parkerized in .38 Special with British proofs so it was likely a lend/lease gun or an early war export to the UK. That's been at least 5 years ago and the asking price was $800. I'd guess twice that for a really good specimen.

I've got the Serven Colt book, and I believe that 4" was a standard length.
