.40 cal carry gun preference

I select a platform/gun based on reliability, then I select the caliber the weapon was designed for. Guns tend to be much more reliable in the caliber they were designed for.

Also, I am not a fan of the 40 S&W. I haven't found anything it can do I can't do with either my 45acp's or 9mm's. Obviously many other folks disagree with me.

If I was to forced to carry the 40 I would choose the one weapon I know was designed for it, the S&W M&P full size 40.

Due to my arthritis (it isn't the recoil, it is the manipulation of the controls) I no longer carry my S&W revolvers, SIG's, or 1911's. I now carry a H&K P30 LEM in 9mm of course, for CCW. It is about the same size as my old SIG 228 or 1911 Commander sized weapon.

My advice is worth twice what you paid for it.

Go figure.

I'd say DasFriek has it all, except that he is putting more emphasis on thickness and weight than I ever would.

I mean you already said ".40", if you aren't cool with a twenty ounce pistol like the 27, you aren't cool with .40.

Sure you could save some weight with a PPS or a Kahr, both of which are known for being great pistols, but the Glock 27 in my eyes is the best of all the pistols within twenty points of equal to it as a carry pistol, it is far superior to all of the others on the range, it is superior inn many ways to most of the competition for carry, 3.5" barrel may be a difference for some users, I know that when I was looking for a carry pistol, the finish, the slab-sided monolithic width, the smoothness, the accuracy, the capacity/size, all of that made my mind up for me.

I went into it disliking Glock pistols, and walked out of it loving them for what they are.

The Glock 27 works for me. It carry wells: no really sharp edges or pointy corners. I can shoot it accurately. It has been totally reliable in caliber (have had two or three malfunctions in a couple of thousand rounds using a 9mm conversion barrel). Price was good through Glock's Military/LE/EMS/Fire Discount program. I like it a lot.

Greg
