.40S&W guys : which one ?

Which .40S&W pistol and why ? This is for carry , range , and home defense. Just an all around / do all pistol in .40S&W . I know there are others in the same catridge but these are my choices. I have had each one of these in the past and they served me well. They are all gone now but I have spotted one of each around my area for a decent price. Thanks for your opinions and experiences. NOTE: I have a Glock 22 and 27.

I have most of the big name ones. 229/226/usp/96/320 etc etc. And some lesser ones like the smith third gen. If I had to keep one for actual use it would be the Glock 22 or 27. If I had to use it for concealed carry it would be 27. Otherwise 22

I still say px4 of the ones you picked. But id take a 226/229 or usp or Beretta 96 or a 320 over a px4.

Px4 were selling for under 250 bucks 3 year ago. And they couldn't move them at that. Lol. Fine guns but lacked the demand of the others.

New guns?

I've never seen a new PX4, in a brick and mortar store, under $500. Certainly, I may have lived in the wrong places, but I've followed the PX4 since introduction.

Depending on whether you prefer striker or DA/SA, I'd choose between the M&P or PX4.

I know there are a lot of Cougar fans out there, but it was an intermediate step between the 92 and the PX4. I think the PX4 is a better gun than the Cougar.

Never said new. During the great 40 die off of yesteryear....the usp was 400ish. The 226/229 was 350 ish . The Glock 27 was 299 for two years. All in like new shape. The px4 went unsold for almost a year at 249 with 3 mags

Aim/recoil/and kings had truckloads

My S&W M&P 2.0 in 40 is the only striker fired pistol that I have kept and I quite like it. Too large for carry in my opinion, but a great pistol.

I've not owned any of these, and I too wouldn't carry one, but from the OP's list, this is my choice:

Another vote for the M&P. I have a M&P 2.0 Compact with a 4" barrel. It is a good gun. I honestly don't have experience with the other two but my vote is due to a prejudice of mine. I believe it is better to have a pistol that was originally designed for 40 than a pistol that was designed to be a 9 & converted.

I agree . I am a PX4 shooter. I have 3 and I've never seen any used one , much less a new one for under $500 .

I personally found the PPQ to be a softer shooter than the VP9, and as soft as the M&P 2.0. Maybe the M&P locking block is solid too?

I went with the M&P mainly because I want a longer barrel with a .40. and the M&P's I've had have been accurate and reliable. But I wouldn't turn my nose to the PX4 its only 1/4" shorter.
I like my Stoeger 9mm, but I think I'd pass on the .40.
