16.0 Grs AA #9 under a 210 Gr XTP for 1225ish FPS from a 4" tube. Not max, but plenty of power, accurate, and fun to shoot. Planned to bump it up a hair, but never have.
15.0 Grs AA #9 under a Sierra 170 Gr JHP for 1250ish FPS from a 4" tube. Again, not max, but accurate and fun.
Have serveral .41 mags including a Ruger like yours and its been my experience that the .41 mag is a remarkably easy cartridge to load. I've tried many loads from milder 215gr LSWC old police load to to full power with both cast and jacketed bullets and all have been accurate regardless of load. I've used W231, TrailBoss, Unique, AA7, AA9, 2400 and H110.
Use a powder you can find data for, good quality bullets and you are good to go. Slower powders for full magnum and faster powder for milder loads.
I have shot a ton of loads through a couple of Ruger's, both in BH and RH. One of the best overall loads I have found is 20.5grs of H-110/296, Win-WLP primers, and the Rem bulk 200gr HP.
Other than the Rem 170gr HP that has been discontinued the above load has shot accurately, and put a big pile of hogs in the freezer.
Just don't get overly carried away with the crimp and you should be fine. Like mentioned above, this caliber is pretty straightforward to load and is or can be very accurate.
Most of the time in my ruger 41 like yours, I have settled on 8 grs of unique with 215 gr cast bullet out of the RCBS bullet mould. It's accurate and still enough velocity to be useful , without the recoil and muzzle blast associated with the short barrel.
Trailboss with the same bullet has made some fun little plinkers.
I settled on 18 grs of 2400 for a heavy load, as it showed the best uniformity and efficiency over the chronograph from that barrel, of the other "heavy" loads I tested.
