Getting old ain't for sissies! A shoulder injury forced me to sell my beloved Mossberg 500 shotgun. So I purchased a 410 Saiga. Went to the range yesterday and shot it for the first time. Very nice and I am real satisfied with it. The sights are very close together so a red dot is in order. I put several rounds of bird shot and several slugs through it, cleaning the barrel after each shot. Three of the slugs went through the same hole at 50 yards. The recoil was very light on the shoulder. Having AK's, it will be easy to operate in the middle of the night when things go bump. Typical AK crudeness but functional.

Thanks Dave and Ranger30-06. Have two ten round mags on order so will send pics when they arrive. THR is a great gun site. Found an adjustable buttstock for it here yesterday. That will work good for the bride as she is alot smaller than I am.

I had similar problems. I'm rather old and take various blood thinners. After shooting Winchester Buckshot in my pump my shoulder would turn black and blue and would hurt like He!! later that day. A gunbuilder friend of mine built me a perfect home defense weapon using a Saiga 410, heavily modified, that me and my tiny wife could shoot very well. It works very well with Winchester tripleX 00 Buck, using a 10 rd mag. Only hassle was the 5 month wait for the SBS stamp from the BATFE. There is a small LED light with a push button mounted on the left side scope rail. We are both left handed.

Very nice Saiga you have there! I was at the range today shooting. Even the guys with big money guns were interested in the 410 Saiga. I have a friend who is paraplegic and he liked shooting it today from his chair. He didn't have to set his brakes. I have a compensator on mine to lessen the recoil.

@Mohawk - that is AWESOME. Can you tell me who built it and how much it cost? (feel free to pm me). I would love a folding stock 410 Saiga.

Good thread. More and more of us are getting to the point where a 9 lb 12 gauge is no longer the best choice in defensive tools.

A 410 has limits, but the proper one in trained hands is far from impotent.

And Mohawk, I'm not the biggest fan of tricked out stuff, but that looks like fun as well as effective. Too bad I can't take it out for a test drive...
