44 Special Snubs

Had a Charter Arms 44 Bulldog and a Lew Horton 624. I still have the Smith. The Bulldog skipped cylinders and would misfire during fast DA shooting. The Smith is a little on the big side for a lot of concealed carry from my perspective. I'd prefer a 4" or 5" 1911. Different strokes for different folks.

Oh, but the assumption is that an owner of a 3" 696 would prefer to carry a revolver. The other assumption is that a revolver forum would not be badgered by neeners from the semi-auto side of the universe.

I've seen this argument many times over whether a 3 inch gun is a snub, and I personally don't give a rodents' rectum whether it's called a snub or a short barrel. I love mine and have many with 3 inch barrels. By FAR my favorite barrel length. Easily concealed and superbly balanced.

Writing in The Snubby Revolver, the definitive tome on short barrel handguns, Ed Lovette pegs the tactical snub nosed revolver at 30 ounces or less with a maximum barrel length of 2.5 inches.

Yes I've read Mr Lovettes book. Lets just say on the business of barrel length we have a difference of opinion. I don't think another half inch of barrel disqualifies any gun.

I bought this one on somewhat of a whim,,,

I bought this one on somewhat of a whim,,,
I had no need for it but did own 200 rounds of .44 Special ammo.

That's reason enough,,,
Isn't it?

Since it was only $299.00 I gave her a home,,,
Older 3" Charter Arms Bulldog.

I named her Pilar,,,
After the not so pretty woman,,,
In that old movie, The Sun Also Rises.

Call her a snubbie or a short barrel it makes no matter,,,
She's not the prettiest girl at the dance,,,
But she will get the job done.

Another Taurus 431 and 441 carrier and with the Blazer 200gr. Gold Dots.

They just make a great combo. So does the Rossi 720. Got one of them, too. :)

OK how about this?
If the revolver has an ejector rod too short to push the fired case fully from the cylinder that revolver is a snubnose.

No, you neeeeed to get one.

Seriously, though, I recently acquired a NIB, current model, stainless steel .44 Charter Arms Bulldog and I am hooked.

If you do not reload, you might want to prepare yourself for the shock of factory ammunition costs, though. I not only have a few hundred rounds of factory .44spc that I bought years ago when it was "cheap", but I already reload for my .44mag 629. ;)

Wow, one really gets butt hurt over a statement of preference. And 'neener'...really? School yard is closed. I didn't realize mentioning an auto loader in a revolver forum was taboo.

No one is badgering anyone. The statement indicated for the size of the Smith N frame a preferred alternative is to carry an auto. Get a life.

Mister Geezer - now THAT'S a snub. That one looks like it went to East St. Louis. And came back out. That's almost as ugly as Mick Jagger. I love it.
