Last week i posted about some H110 loads that shot great. I did forget to crimp them so i loaded 5 with a roll crimp today and went to the range with the chronograph. All 5 rounds had about a 20fps difference but shot like buckshot. 2 touched and 3 went haywire. I checked the stock and scope and all feel tight. I did clean the gun and fired the first target, 3 rounds in the center. It then started grouping super high. I adjusted down (non crimped loads shot perfect and no adjustment) on the 2nd target and the first 2 hit close to the bull and the rest went super low. I gave up and will just load the non crimped load and sight in with those. IMG_5867.png IMG_5864.jpeg

Single shot Handi rifle - right? Not sure if I recall/read your post from a few weeks ago or not....but I want to think Handi.

Sure seems like, based on your post, that your rifle likes no crimp, maybe less crimp? Throat maybe tight? Mimicking a "crimp" in a long tube(barrel)? Guessing here.

If it is a single shot - you are not concerned about bullet jump or what tube fed lever guns may encounter. Find what works. Sounds like you have.
It may not be "erratic" - but simply "is".

I wouldn't worry about setback or crimp jumping in a singleshot (something levers and revolvers deal with) BUT crimping changes the pressure (as noted by fps increase shown) wouldn't hurt if you worked charge weight southward lil by lil WITH crimping, just to see. That being said, as long as your singleshot is the only gun to ever see these loads, I'd just mark them well and carry on without crimp as long ad there's enough neck tension for reliability.

If it is, indeed, a Handi (or Classic, etc...) they can get erratic if you try to rest the forearm on something, or if you put pressure on the forearm or barrel somehow. I tried benching my Classic Hunter in .45 Colt, and it threw bullets everywhere, but it shoots like a dream offhand. Not saying that's what's wrong... it sounds like all you changed was the crimp. H110 like a heavy crimp, so I'd be curious to see what would happen if you didn't crimp; it may not really matter in the longer barrel, but then again, it might. Lot going on, here...

Its a handi rifle. New to H110 and everyone said to crimp for better ignition. Going to load some with no crimp tomorrow and try again.

No crimp made a 5 shot hole all touching.

The 3 without slices was no crimp.

Sounds like no crimp is the solution! Sharpie the primers to remind yourself they don't go in the revolver, but that is a great improvement...

Crimp is an additional factor, and can introduce problems. Trimming the cases is mandatory, and will remove the variation.
no expert, but if you want accuracy you do want consistency. IMHO trim them and crimp them, in case someone does decide to drop them in a revolver at some point. if you going to load a batch/shoot a batch, no crimp sounds like it is working.

Cool... let us know how it shakes out. I have yet to use something like H110 in my H&R, but I have used IMR4227, which works swimmingly.
23.6hr IMR 4227 with 240gr xtp and a very heavy crimp is my best load but i’ve got a full pound of H110 i got a deal on so trying to use it up. I’m loading 20 with the IMR though and probably just hunt with that next week.

I get that no crimp is obviously the solution but why the erratic touch 2 holes and send the rest all over. My mind works where i have to know why, hence the asking.

inconsistent inconsistency? I think you're looking for a pattern in something that is more erratic. Maybe if you shot 10 shot groups or 20 it would paint a picture that made sense.
