I caught myself making a mistake while loading a 245gr. #2 alloy Keith style Lyman bullet. Instead of using 20.6gr. of 2400 I used 26.0gr. Question is should I pull the bullet or shoot. I have a Ruger SuperBlackhawk Hunter. Thanks.:banghead:

Same bullet I cast for my Ruger NM Super Blackhawk.

Lyman's reloading handbook lists the starting load for 2400 as 19.4 grains, maximum load 23.4 grains.

Myself, I'd rather not tempt fate and vote for pulling it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Pull them, for sure. The effort will be well worth it when both hands are still intact. 2400 at that level a load with that weight bullet sounds pretty unpredictable to me. I cast the 429421, load and shoot that same powder through my rugers and I'd never consider shooting 26 gr's, or letting anyone near me shoot it. Pulling bullets is a total PITA but ALWAYS worth the effort-at least in the peace of mind dept.

Way tooooo heavy, pull em! Never needed go over 21 grains (sweet spot) with the 429421. Not worth taking the chance. Bill

I've shot many pounds of 2400 under a 245-255 Kieth in 44 mag over the years. My advice:

That charge you have is just asking for a blown up gun.

But... If you go against all the advice and shoot them anyway, will you post before and after pictures of the revolver?

Pressure change vs. powder charge is not linear. In other words, a 10%increase in powder can result in much more than 10% more pressure, especially when approaching range limits.

I'd not shoot that from a super blackhawk, much less my 29-2!
