44mag Reload Help

Still powder residue and still inaccurate but I hope to solve that with the .431 bullets and possibly a lighter round.

With 240 gr jacketed bullets, IMR4227 gives me the best accuracy from my 77/44 carbine, and when run @ just at or slightly compressed powder charges and it burns relatively clean. It also shoots very well outta my 629s. As with Unique, accuracy and consistency prevails over "clean".

What is your load of 4227?

While I cant comment for buck460, I too run IMR 4227 w/ jacketed (hornaday 240gr xtp) at near max of 24gr. I also use a federal mag primer. Max is 24.2

In my marlin 1894, its a tackdriver for the ranges I shoot.

IMR4227 is going to be dirty in a 44/45 ... just the the way it is.
(Though you can increase burn efficiency w/ stronger crimp)

But you do have a tight Std Dev of only 10fps, ...and that's what matters.
(Burn may not be efficient, but it's consistent)

You can drive Lyman#2 45s and 44s to mid 1,500's w/o a problem, but get that 0.431" mould and go from there.
I recommend this mould/maker if a flat base, or its gas-checked brother as req'd

You get to get tell Tom the diameter you want when you order.
(post script: Wheel weights is plenty hard for the correct bore fit.)

I run about 23.7 under a 240 Nosler and the 240 XTPs, but again, I also run them in the 629. I suggest you reference your manuals as to what bullet you are using, as some seat deeper than others. You really cannot get enough IMR4227 under a 240 grainer to be dangerous, but IME, just a slightly compressed charge shoots most accurate. I also use WLP primers.
