Get the Barnes 250's. They'll shoot faster than anything else will in the .45/70 for sure.

I just loaded some heavy weight bullets; 450 gr Acme coated LFN over 34.1 gr IMR 4198, W-W cases, CCI LR primers. They pack a bit of a punch at the muzzle end, but aren't abusive in the recoil department.

Stay safe.
I like imr4198 in 45-70 too. I usually just use the standard 405 grain. Just got some coated 405s from mbc and loaded 50 up. I've got a couple moulds for heavier bullets but I'm not casting yet, building a garden shed/casting room this year out back. My wife is super concerned about lead fumes because we have babies in the house, I don't blame her.

Good idea...Pb fumes aren't good for anyone, especially for youngsters developing systems.

The ACME bullets come in 450 and even a 500 grain version. I've shot about 10 of the 450's out of the 26" 1895 CB and found them to be pretty accurate and not too bad to shoot (I only had a 50-yard range, group was not bad) They will be fired in the GG next.

Stay safe.

Do you know if the 500 grain pills will cycle through a lever action? If so I'll pick some up. Thanks
