My dad's looking for a .45acp long gun to compliment his 1911. I know about the Marlin camp carbines and Thompsons but are their any others that are fairly popular so as parts and support would not be an issue???

AR15 .45, Beretta Cx4 Storm .45, HK USC 45

Seems to me there should be no problem finding parts for an AR, but I haven't searched.

With that MechTech, he could use the same lower. I don't know if switching out is his idea of "complementing" or not. To me, about the only thing in that caliber which would "complement" a 1911 is a Thompson. The modern semi-auto versions are now made by the Auto-Ordnance company.

P.S. A better complement would also be a "real rifle"; i.e. one in a full powered caliber. But what's the budget and what other long guns does he have? And what purpose does he have in mind, if any?

Well, I tried one of these:

But it fires from an open bolt and it's difficult to be accurate. Looks neat, though.

And I also tried one of these:

But eventually I decided these are the best .45 carbines:

That's a Bazooka Brothers BAZ45 lower on the right, which is a dedicated grease gun magazine lower. Here's a closer shot:

That's an early one with a steel magwell, which works just fine; I understand the proprietor is now producing all aluminum BAZ45s.

Gosh I wish something like the IMI Timberwolf was available in .45 acp. With all those 1911s and .45 acp ammo out there you'd think somebody would see an opportunity.

I have a Volenteer Arms Tommygun clone that looks like a standard Tommygun (like the one Tom Hanks used in Private Ryan) takes standard Tommy gun mags and works well for me. Traded for it years ago. Won't feed anything but Round nose ammo but thats OK. Watch the gun shows and you might find one. Perfect match with the 1911's. :)

A friend has a Mauser converted to .45 ACP. I'd rather have a good .22.

On the other hand, that Bazooka AR mutant looks like a good setup for 3-gun events at carbine ranges.

Local friend has an SBR/suppressed .45ACP Mauser conversion, Mauser 7mm/8mm/7.65mm spares easy to come by, all being the same case-head size....he calls it his cat gun......but .45ACP carbines generally get lower velocity than handguns with factory rounds, factory rounds being stoked with faster burning powders for shorter handgun barrels.....steadiness of hold with a carbine still has merit, of course....

That Bazooka Brothers is really neat. I wish I could get one in 9x23mm.

Enfield conversion, if he's up for a project.
