I felt like shooting some .45 ACP today, so I packed up my CZ 97B and my Springfield Armory 1911 this morning in my little range bag. I also brought my P-365 in a really small bag, just because.

I got a "Winchester White Box" ammo box out of the trash, put it on the berm (40/45 yards away from the picnic type table under the awning) in one of the long pistol pits. I sat on the picnic table bench and banged away at it.

I bounced it around OK with the SA,

but really knocked it around with the CZ.

I like my old SA 1911, and it has been a good pistol, one I have had a very long time, but the CZ 97B out shoots it and I shoot the CZ 97B a lot better. A THR member walked me through installing the Competition Hammer in the CZ and it is sweet. No creep, a crisp, very predictable let off, and light but not too light.

Another nice thing about the CZ 97B is it dumps brass right next to you so it is easy to pick up.

After shooting up the .45 ammo I got the P-365 out and loaded it with ten rounds of my 124 Gr plinker load. I used 1X reading glasses to shoot the SA & the CZ (1X doesn't clear up the fuzzy sights completely, but helps), but I did not use glasses to shoot the P-365. I hit close enough to move the box (Splatter dirt against it) three times, actually hit it once (Saw white fly up), and never missed by more than a foot. At that distance with no glasses and a 3.1 inch barrel I'll take it. (I love this P-365)

Very nice! I did that last week, though I only brought my Glock 21.

Didnt intend on shooting it much and focus on rifle but brought a few hundred rounds "just in case" and wouldnt ya know it I blew through it all once I remembered how much I liked shooting that Glock. It was my first, my gateway Glock.

Always wanted to try a 97B though, I bet I'd love it.

If I could find a good deal on one I would scoop it up. Thankfully I haven't yet, or else my wallet and wife would both hate me.

That CZ .45 is real nice pistol, but my hands are too small to handle it.:(

That's what intrigues me both. My hand size and the beavertail location make CZ 75 and variants feel uncomfortably small (P07/09 Excluded) and I surmise the bigger 97B would alleviate that concern.

I had one of those yesterday; Test firing my 1911 after losing the Series 80 safety, I found I need to replace the disconnector. I also brought along my PT145, which only hiccuped on my Dad's 185 gr. LSWC's. (they jam everything except his 625) Didn't take any pics, though. I shot Trap afterwards, a 15 with my 18" Ithaca 37 HD gun, and a 23 with my 870.

The CZ 97 can be a bit oicky about some bullet styles. It really loves the Zero 185 Gr JHP. It will feed some bullets when downloaded to 7 or 8 rounds that it chokes on (Round jams down into the ramp from spring pressure) if loaded fully (10), such as the Berrys 200 Gr HP. It will also jam on 200 Gr SWCs sometimes. It's OK though, it's a range toy, and I can always stoke it with the already mentioned Zero 185 JHP.

Nice pistols Tallball. I once had a Silver Team for awhile. Miss it sometimes.

Personally, I think shooting at something on a berm, a distance away, is one of the best ways to practice. The feedback on each shot is immediate...and it is fun. Steel targets are fun too, but I think you get to pinpoint the hits on a berm better.

CZ97(s) always appealed to me. Nice pistol.

Pretty good shooting! The other day, I was banging away at some 20oz Coke Bottles at 50-60 yards with some Glocks and an IWI Baby Eagle (CZ 75 knockoff I think?) in .45. It's not that much smaller than a Winchester box, and I couldn't even see the darn thing in my sights half the time.

A few months ago I bought a Glock 30s and wanted to give it a good trial. I have a lot of ammo but did not want to load new Glock magazines. Problem solved, invite grand children over and we went thru 1100 rounds in 2 days and I only loaded 2 magazines.

Great fun on the range for sure!
My cz97b has the THIN aluminum grips and I find it fits my medium size hand just fine! It’s as soft shooting as my DW 1911 and almost as accurate.
I always have to get used to the trigger on the 97 after shooting my 1911, but it’s very good. Trigger reach is a bit long for me in DA, but very good in SA!

It’s definitely a gun to hang on to!

I have thought about trying some, as it is almost to big for my hands. But I shoot it very well, so..........

It's not going anywhere until I croak, then my younger son wants it, he loves it too.

Yours looks like the pre-2013 model, correct? The 2013+ has thin grips and a revised feed ramp that eats pretty much everything. I've never had a FTFeed or anything with mine after shooting several different types of hollow point ammo and a bunch of other stuff. If you have the earlier model you can have the ramp modified (polished, mostly) to work better with hollow points. At one point CZ-USA would do it at no charge, I've read.

I find the 97B to fit my hand better, all things considered, than a 1911. The superior (IMO) ergonomic shape lets the 97 B fit into my hand and feel more secure, feel like I have a better grip on it even though my hadn't isn't really wrapped around it much more, if any.

I hate to admit it because I admire the 1911, but after getting my 97B, installing the CGW Ultra Lite kit in it, I eventually sold the 1911 because it wasn't getting out of the safe.

In addition to the CGW Ultra Lite Kit, I intend to install a their 6SAO trigger and Race Hammer Kit in the 97B, which I know from having done it on my 85 Combat turns a excellent shooting gun into an awesome gun.

Those are the same grips I have—very comfortable!
Thanks for posting your cz97b upgrades—I’m tempted!

I second the updated feed ramp post 2013. Mine also eats anything: RN, LSWC, JHP, etc...
