I'm partial to my long barreled Model 25-2 target revolver from 1980. Mine was chopped, back "in the day," to a sweet-handling 3 1/4" and the action slicked up for fast, double action work and for carry purposes. Several gunsmiths were doing this in the '70s and '80s to the 25-2s because S&W seemed clueless to the awesome sales potential of offering a short barreled, super-fast reloading moon-clipped .45ACP revolver.
Finally, S&W "got it" and offered the 625 stainless guns with 3, 4 and 5" barrel options!
However, I like the handling properties of my chopped 25-2 in matches vs. the full, heavy underlug of the new guns, plus I've grown fond of the blued guns, so I foolishly sold off my very early 1990s era 625. However, this 25-2 is my favorite handgun of all time.
Funny . . . it still thinks it is a target revolver . . . shooting ragged little single hole groups, standing/unsupported at ten yards!
To the OP, pick up a 625, 25-2 or any other adjustable sight S&W .45ACP revolver. You will never regret it!
