I'm looking for a .45 semi auto carbine that i can mount a suppressor on and shoot subsonics but that also has high cap mags available. I'd love an HK but dont care to spend that much so that it takes high cap mags.

Are the pistol caliber AR's reliable? I have a Glock 21 SF so mag compatability would be a plus although more than 13 rounds is preferrable.

Anybody had experience with a Mech-tech system? How about an EMF?

What about the keltec? I'll have to check but I think you can get it Glock
mag compatable and it even folds in half.

What are planning on using this item for? Is this going to be a range toy or are you actually going to be using it for home defense or even something more serious?

Edit
Sorry, looks like the keltec only comes in 9 and 40.

For $1500, you can get an AR platform.

What capacity are you looking for?

Grease gun (M3 and M3A1) mags were designed to hold 30 rounds.

I believe the Uzi .45 mags were designed to hold 16.

There is no such critter as a "high cap magazine" - the term is a legal fiction and an antigunner buzzword.

Yeah, but it doesn't come in .45 ACP

Purpose is plinking and HD. I plan on having a suppressor that will work on my glock and carbine.

I respectfully disagree about high cap magazine. Regardless of the source of the term it is one that has entered our lexicon although it is generally a relative term.

Is anyone making an AR platform that takes grease gun mags? If so is it with a dedicated lower or insert? Are they all blowback?

The sub-2000 does look intersting. Although .45 is my first choice as i'll be adding a supressor i do have an XD amd M&P in 40 so if they make one to accept those i'd consider it.

My only concern is that the front sight base looks too close to thread the barrel for a supressor. I assume this can be altered?

Golly gee, this sounds like the perfect schenario for a MSAR MCS. It's a bullpup so it's perfect for suppression (due to the length and balance), and takes glock magazines. The only problem is that they haven't released them yet, and the 9mmPara will be the first to hit the market, but if you're willing to wait, it seems like the perfect carbine.

:)

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I thought about the MSAR but their realease dates are usually a few decades after announcement. Besides i already have one in 556 and enjoy having diversity in my collection.

I was just handling a KRISS at a local gun shop yesterday and liked it but would prefer to wait for the price to come down.

The masterpiece arms looks the most promising. Are they reliable? I prefer something with an existing and proven magazine.

Are there any .45 ARs that take grease gun mags? I wouldnt mind another AR build if the parts are available.

HK USC -- love mine. Accurate, low recoil, and easy to handle.

I think CDNN had them about a month back for $1100. The only down side is you are limited to 10rd expensive HK magazines.

I was going to suggest the mechtech ccu, but fatcat beat me to it. you can even buy a threaded barrel for a hundred or so and put the can on your 45 cal glock pistol when you tire of the rifle.

The Masterpiece Arms weapon uses M3, 'grease gun', magazines in .45 and Sten magazines in 9mm. Both existing and proven magazines. :)

You could just about buy two for $1500.

I think the market could bear a good .45ACP carbine that is somewhere between a High Point and the HK. Only with SMG-type magazines, not pistol mags.

I got to shoot the Beretta Storm 45ACP over the weekend with a can, worked flawlessly, superlightweight, lots of mags available, allows the center of gravity to be in your shooting hand rather than forward of it. SHOULD make it easier to shoot one handed, if you so desired.

+1 for the Beretta, I had a friend that had one and it was a joy to shoot, though it seems that their price has been creeping up since their introduction.

:)

Careful with that MechTech upper. Jury is still out about it's legality. Seems it's fine to put your 21's lower on it, but legally you can't swap the Glock slide back on without a tax stamp (rifle to pistol conversion). I'm still waiting to hear back from the ATF on the issue as I was looking to get one also.

But anyway if I was to be looking for a 45 carbine, it would be either an AR conversion or Beretta.

EMF makes a .45 Carbine on Glock platform for under $800. Check it out, I'm saving my pennies for it.

My brother loves his...is very reliable and accurate.

Of course you could always get inventive and convert an SKS for Glock mags...
