45 Colt Reloads for 1873 Army Clone vs 1892 Winchester Clone

I have a great selection locally, just not many Alliant powders on the shelf. I can buy just about any Hogdon, Accurate or Winchester powder within an hour of my house. Right now I can buy a lb. of Alliant 2400 on line, but with shipping and hazmat it’s over $100. I can buy Hogdon 110 or Accurate No. 9 locally for $40. I'm not using 2400 at that price.
You’re very lucky to have such a good selection.

Anything safe in the pistol will be safe for the rifle. The Rossi 92 is stronger than the large frame Ruger Blackhawk. I'd suggest just finding whatever load suits your sixgun best and use them in the rifle. You'll probably get at least another 200fps.

I've been wanting to give 2400 a try in 44 and 357 mag and loading 45 Colt for a rifle gives me an excuse to bite the bullet and order a jug. I've already spent more on powder than I did on the rifle!

The Rossi R92 is here and we have four days or heavy rain forecast! I'm going to try my pistol loads first, but I'm also going to work up hotter rifle loads. This is what I'm looking at with a 250 gr Hornady XTP.

I picked up the Rossi yesterday and I’m really impressed with how much better they look now. The action is pretty smooth but I’m going to install a spring kit and clean up the rough machining marks to make it slick.ive also order a stainless steel magazine spring and follower.

I do have a problem though. The gun is putting two parallel scratches on the cases as shown in the picture

I think it might be this area right here causing it. Can would slightly relieving those sharp corners at the bottom of the barrel fix this issue?

That's some nasty scratches. I would use some fine 600 grit sandpaper and clean it up from the inside out.

Since this issue isn't reloading, I'm going to start a thread in the rifle section to address the issue.

I installed a spring kit and took 800 grit sandpaper to the end of the chamber and the gun no longer scratches cases and the action is much lighter than it was in stock condition. I started out using my handgun loads and what yields 700 FPS in my revolver gives me about 950 FPS out of the rifle. That's using a 250 gr Berry's plated FN bullet. I tried several different loads of Alliant 2400 and 250 gr Hornady XTP bullets. The velocity ranged from a low of 1050 FPS with 15.4 gr to a high of 1450 FPS with 17.8 gr of powder. I think I'm going to settle on 1200 FPS with 16.2 gr of powder. The gun is a ton of fun, I can't wait shoot a little steel with it.
