FWIW my Ruger only loads for my older Blackhawk that I use is a 250 grain jacketed with18.6 grains of 2400. I have used both regular and magnum primers with this load without piercing primers. It compares to a stiff 44 MAG load when I shoot it. The Speer manual says 19.9 grains will give you just under 25,000 CUP which is the max for Ruger only loads. In comparison the regular 45 colt loads have a max of 15,900 CUP. So if you are having problems with regular loads I would suspect the revolver first. With the cavat that you are NOT crushing the trail boss when loading iit. My .02 c
