Does the 450 marlin have a real advantage over the 4570 ? I was thinking about buying a guide gun in one of these calibers, but I had read somewhere that the 450 is a better round. This would be for whitetail hunting , maybe moose. thanks a lot

You should combine your two posts. Factory loads for the 45-70 are now available from PMC,Buffalobore and Garrett that will easily take moose or just about anything. Standard factory loads are graet for deer.

For all intents and purposes they give equal performance. The .450 marlin has no advantage ove the 45-70 if you use the semi custom ammo from firms such as buffalo bore, garrett, cor bon, or good handloads.

My standard load for my Guide Gun is the 350-grain Hornady RN or FP at 1700 fps. For a .450 Marlin equivalent, I shoot a reduced load in my .458 WM with the same bullet at 1250 fps. The bolt action stock is much more comfortable at that power level than a lever action stock.
