Hello, I am a firearm fan/collector, just got into it about a year ago, and I was wondering about a particular gun I thought you guys might help me find more information on.

I already have a revolver in .454 Casull, but I have recently heard rumors of a AUTOLOADER .454!

It first started at a gun club I frequent in Virginia with some anime fanboys who were talking about this gun a character was using. I at first just laughed, until one of them pulled out a picture of it. I seem to remember seeing the gun before, but then I noticed it said .454 Casull on the side! It gets better, the kid with that photo them pulled out a photo of a REAL GUN WITH .454 Casull on it! AN AUTOLOADER!

It looked a lot like a 1911, but the grip was longer, and it varied in that the hammer was concealed. I have only seen 1911s with an exposed hammer.

Any of you ever heard of it?

auto loader in 454

i have never heared of an outo loader in 454. i have seen a auto in 30 carbine made by amt as well as they originaly had an auto in 44 mag (dirty harry movie sudden impact i think) so if one does exist in 454 you might begin looking at amt. sorry i wish i could be of more help but thats all i got.

If it had no visable hammer, then it would be a Dual action pistol. I doubt such an animal exists, for many reasons. First being that the .454 is a long cartridge, even compared to the .50ae. Sure you could make a magazine big enough to hold a .454 casull, however only people with big hands could use it. Big hands being an understatment. The .50ae Desert Eagle is big, I can hold it comfortably, but anything bigger and it might be to much.

The amount of power the .454 casull has, would mean the gun would have to be built with a lot of steel, and would likel be very heavy (just like the Desert eagle). I have not seen, or heard of anything like your describing, and I doubt what you saw was real. I don't know everything, so I will be interested to see what others have to say.

Mateba

It is a Mateba. They are an Italian made auto revolver.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=mateba

They come in .357/38 (separate spring), .44, & 45 long colt/.454. I have the
.44 and there is a fellow on the form who has the .454 and says is very easy
to shoot.

Contrary to what some believe the gun came first then the anime.

The description doesn't sound like a Mateba, but I also thought of the semi-auto revolver when I heard "auto" and ".454 Casull" in the same sentence. Plus, the anime reference (Trigun) is a giveaway.

Also, it is in Gost in the Shell.

I missed the

part.

Except for the chopped hammer, a converted LAR Grizzly? (Or more probable, a chopped photo of a LAR? Though they came in .45 Win Mag, still quite a bit short in chamber pressure as compared to .454C which leads me to believe chop.)

heres a thought

if you made the auto in the old broom handel mauser style (the mag infront of the trigger it might work but the thing would still by nessity be verry heavy. but i think it could work again i dont know if it has ever been done. the 1911 style thing has me completly stumped the only thing i can come up with is it was a mock up made to look prety and thats it.

First, its not a Mateba, it is a autoloader dual action like GregGry said.

OH, and there are bigger auto-loading handguns. The .50 S&W, the successor to the title of "Most Powerful Handgun Cartridge," has an autoloader now I think.

But this gun, it definitely looked like a 1911, since the description has been aruged I will try and get technical.

Firstly, it was at least a few inches longer than a 1911, and although the picture was a straight down shot, Im sure it was wider.

I think it must have been steel, but it would not rule out polymer (the GLOCKs are made of polymer except for the barrels and actions, and GLOCKs are incredibly tough).

So longer than a 1911, a longer grip, must be bigger, and its not a revolver at all, it was an autoloader much like the 1911.

Added at edit: quick thought, could someone be custom making these?

Take a look at this image:

460-308.gif

Notice how the .50ae brass is shorter then the .454 by a decent ammount? Now compare the .50ae to the 500 s&w. Within the frame of the desert eagle, I can't see how you could fit either the .454, or the 500 s&w. The grip would have to be insanely wide inorder to be able to hold the rounds in the grip.

The .500 s&w round is longer then the grip frame of a 1911, so good luck even attempting to modify the 1911 to hold it. The only way I can see such a firearm would exist, is if it was 100% custom made, and likely not exactly functional. The firearm would have to be of substantial size and weight, otherwise it would be like owning a .44 mag airlight snubby. Your wrist would get such a beating it would be insane. There are reasons not to many semi-auto pistols that chamber magnum rounds, exist. In a revolver, the rounds are surronded by a considerable ammount of metal. Its hard to get the chamber strength thats needed to handle a .454 casull, without having a considerable amount of metal. In no way would your typical .45acp chamber handle a .454.

Also, I have never heard of an autoloader that shoots the 500 s&w, I doubt such a animal exists. I doubt a .454 casull autoloader exists as well, atleast on a mas production scale. I mean I saw a single shot pistol online that supposedly fires a .50bmg round. Although I think it was a non-functioning joke, I am sure someone has made a real one for laughs. You can make anything, but making something that actually works well, and not blow up in your face is the challange.

I'm pretty sure the anime in question is Hellsing, check the link below for a picture of the character and autoloader. Friends and I enjoyed the series and the .454 always solicits a chuckle, especially the special bullets he uses. Note that the character is a supernaturally strong vampire, thus allowing one handed .454 head shot goodness.

Given the Japanese tendency to create fan art, resin models, etc from scratch I would not be surprised if there is a credible airsoft style gun out there of this design.

Ahh, didn't account for resin models.

*Note to self: Forget the 50 BMG, get a .454 Mateba.*
In Italy we are obliged to forget .50BMG rifles...:(
