454 the most versatile 45 caliber

Since a little known semi auto named the Desert Eagle exists, it would be possible to chamber 454 in mag fed semi auto platforms. And if my memory serves me correctly, Ruger makes or made a 10/22 style 44 mag rifle.

I‘d say 454 is the most versatile 45 being it can be weakly or earth shatteringly loaded and examples exist for auto loaded rimmed and roll crimped cartridges. Might not be the most practical, but it’s possible.

No it wouldn't, not without it being absurdly overweight. The .44Mag is a 36,000psi cartridge. The .454 is a 65,000psi cartridge that proofs over 90,000psi. I never say never but it'll never happen.

The desert eagle isn’t the littlest thing on earth nor the lightest.

Being the 454 has a coal of 1.745” much shorter than standard 2.26” mag length, an ar15 conversion could be built if desired as the eagle uses an ar style bolt so it’s possible, and last I checked the ar15 can handle 62k psi. There’s no point since the 450bm exists and does the same thing with less pressure and wear. I’m using ar for example as it’s more common than crab grass.

A single shot 22 will take a squirrel in one shot, so will a 700 nitro. The 700 nitro will take a rhinoceros in one shot, the 22 won’t. The 700 is more versatile, but would you use that for squirrels? No you would not because it’s not practical. The subject is versatility not practicality. Which 45 can do it all? 454 gets my vote. I would say 45 raptor (rimless 460 magnum)but unless you have Andre the Giant’s hands, you could not hold onto the grip of a semi auto pistol.

Well, the 45 Raptor is available and also the 500 Automax (Big Horn Armory) exists for the AR-10/LR-308 platform if one is bent on attaining the maximum bore size and horsepower from an AR platform.

Also, 50 Beowulf is no slouch in the AR-15

The twist in most 92's is too slow for that heavy a bullet and it probably won't cycle through the action anyway. However, Chiappa's newer 1892's have the faster 1-20" twist and could theoretically be tuned to feed longer bullets.

That is okay. I bought my R92 to run the Hornady and Sierra 240 grain jacketed bullets and lead 200 and 240 grain cast. Any of which should be fine in a 1:30 (R92) or 1:38 (old Marlin) for killing deers and pigs ;). And even black bears. If something bigger, tougher, meaner than that needs killing I got other medicine available to the task.

If your cast are sized correctly you should be fine up to 240 grn, but my r92 in 44 mag didn't like any of the loads I wanted to shoot in it. I traded it for a sandrail project instead of figuring it out. Kinda regret letting it get away.
