yes I do I am interested in .458 vs .459 > resize the .459?Hmmm, way to open of a question. Do you have a reloading manual?
have you used Oregon Trail cast?I load my .458 with commercial available HC .405g gas check 45/70 bullets! GOOD STUFF
Welcome to the caliber!
I recommend registering at www.458socomforums.com, everything you will need to know about the 458 can be found there.
As for a few starting pointers, RRA uppers can be hit and miss as far as function. I believe they use the correct reamer, so your chamber should be to the original Teppo Jutsu specs.
The 458S was designed to operate with a standard carbine buffer and spring.
I know you said once fired brass but if you ever get a hold of brand new brass, they need to be run through a sizing die before loading. Do not skimp on the case lube, stuck cases are extremely common, I use Hornady unique.
For cast bullets case flare is a must, I use the NOE expander inserts. Removing that flare is equally as important, the Lee collet style factory crimp die does great. I don't actually apply any crimp into the bullet, just ironing out the additional flare back to normal case mouth diameter.
Tromix slotted case gauge is an extremely useful tool when loading cast, especially powder coated bullets.
oooh yeah!have you used Oregon Trail cast?
Your best way of knowing will be to slug your barrel but at the very least you should need to size .459". I use a "460" sizing die and my bullets measure .4595 - .460.yes I do I am interested in .458 vs .459 > resize the .459?
powder coating > resize after coating?

18” barrel
didn’t see any, and it cycledThat's a hot load. Any pressure signs?
458 socom is a mean looking round
are you using a big brake? There is a ball of fire atributed to it ,too.
that sounds FUN!This was actually the first AR I built. I needed it to help control the hogs where I live. My back porch to the feeder is ~95 yrds. Packs a good punch, the hogs know when they get hit with it. I run a brake on mine mainly since I do most all my shooting at night. Without the brake you want be able to see down range till all the smoke clears. With the break you never loose sight. All I use is a VRX 2x7 with the dot turned on real low. I have lights around my feeder to aide in seeing if the moon is not not out. I see real good at night, better than most. With the barnes I have gotten 2 for one. Nerves system hit on both. Dropped on the spot and did not move.
I would love to see the lightest .458 going the fastest, load. I’m thinking something like 200g going 2800Get a copy of Lyman #50.
I tried various powders w/ 300gr lead boolits, and settled on IMR4227 for mild recoil loads.
My neighbors know when I fire it, for it has a totally different sound. The big bore has a very unique sound. My closes neighbor is 1/4 mile away. I had the opportunity to shoot early one evening when they were home watching tv. His wife heard the gun from inside there house and asked her husband "What the hell was that". He laughed and said it was me shooting my 458 SOCOM, at a hog. He knows I don't shoot it at night to just be shooting. All my neighbors shoot around here.
