get all my hot ammo from swampfox now, excellent quality and fantastic customer service.
If you are gonna use hollow points, i would go with XTP's, they're tough, offer controlled expansion ad deep penetration.

$10 per box shipping? 3% charge for using a visa? The cheap $17.50 per box of 50 price mitigates a lot of that, but man, why not be honest about the real price they're charging?

In the woods, I'd carry my GP100 loaded full full power hardcast .357 loads.

Stick with one of 255-gr. hardcast loads that feed reliably in your handgun and stay away from HP's even if they're bonded or copper! Deep penetration is the key and hardcast wadcutters cut a nice permanent path through flesh and bone, unlike FMJ that temporarily just pushes the flesh aside. HP's won't deep enough for black bear - at least not deep enough to stake your life on.

Pay a couple dollars more and get one of these loads and test for reliable functionality in your weapon:

Buffalo Bore:
255-gr. +P Hardcast @ 960 fps (45-255). For barrier penetration & protection in the mountains.

Double Tap:
255-gr. +P Hardcast Semi-Wadcutter @ 875 fps in 5” barrel. For barrier penetration & protection in the mountains.

In your situation, Hornady's 230 gr. FMJFP (Full Metal Jacket Flat Point) would also be an excellent 'compromise'. However, I REALLY LIKE the sound of the Buffalo Bore 255 gr. SWC offering...A LOT.

Agree with Harmon Rabb on GP100

I agree with Harmon Rabb. When I am in the woods I carry a GP100 with a 158gr hardcast SWC pushing 1400 fps! Absolutely slays deer and large hogs. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on a black bear.

You mean the bear bell and pepper spray being sold like crazy at every store won't work? :scrutiny: hahaha
I guess the same people marketing those things probably think you should just tell the bear "stop or I'll shoot" or even worse, " leave me alone or I'll get my lawyer" ( that might just be animal cruelty though )....:p

I don't see anything wrong with the 200gr. Speer +P Gold Dot load for general use.

A 255gr SWC is an excellent choice also if more killing power is wanted.

Just curious will you be hiking, camping, hunting? I ask because if you are taking a long gun with you I would carry a quality hp of your choosing. If the 45 will be your only weapon I would go with something hardcast so you can get all the penetration you can get. If you like carry a spare mag of hp if your really worried about two legged threats, I doubt that they'll just shrug off a hit from a hardcast bullet but if it makes you feel better go for it.

I am very aware of the marginal performance that 45acp has against 4 legged threats.

I don't know that to be true. I think that the .45 would work on most 4 legged threats. There have been grizzly stopped with the .45 acp here in Wyoming which will be one of the toughest 4 legged threats. Personally, I would alternate different ammo types. What works on the bear won't be the best on the mountain lion. I've been there and bear medicine made three 1/2" holes all the way through the lions and the lions didn't drop dead upon impact, even with a hole through the heart, through a lung, and a shoulder shot on one of them.

Matching the right bullet to the intended target is key and since the OP cannot afford another firearm, upgrading the ammo in his 45 ACP to a hardcast load is the best and simplest option.

Honestly, I am being honest.
$10 shipping for the first box is right on, The cheapest carrier is Fedex ground and they are averaging $11 per shipment now. UPS is $13. I'm actually losing money on shipping.
You need boxes and packing to ship. That costs too.

Shipping drops off dramatically when buying more than one box.
1 box is $10
2 boxes -$13
3 boxes - $15
4 boxes - $17
5 boxes - $18
and $1 for each box after that
10 boxes is $23

The credit card processor is charging 3%, I have to pass it on or add it to the price.
Paying with a check or MO has no charge added for that, But you have to buy postage.

The pricing is accurate, No money is made on the services just the products, and if you knew the markup after component costs you may ask why I'm even doing it.
