Going to try Hornady 200 gr. HP/XTP and W231 in the ole 45ACP.
Called Hornady and they said 5.7 to 6.8 gr. of 231
Winchester says 5.3 to 5.8 gr. of 231 for 200 gr. JHP
XTP is a JHP isn't it? Hope I'm not real stupid here!

Also: Got any good suggestions for 200 gr. XTP's and WST? Winchester says 4.7 to 5.2 gr. of WST for 200 gr. JHP (45ACP) but now I'm not sure based on the difference in 231.

Advice is appreciated, Tim

Sierra 50th Anniversary Manual
200 grain FPJ- 231
5.0 grain=700fps-- 6.4 grain(maximum load)=900fps

This is one of those examples of different components producing different results.
The data you are refering too is so close I wouldn't wory too much about it.
I have loaded a lot of 5.7 gr 231 load under 200 and 230 gr bullets, both lead and jacketed with good results and no problems at all.
If the Hornady data shows a bit hotter load than Winchester, just work slowly up to it.
Standard reloading common sence.

The data in reloading manuals can vary wildly at times. This is due to the variations in different barrels, using different primers, using diffent brass, using different bullets, and using different seating depths. Start low and work up to your desired velocity and you won't have any problems.

Thanks, where does Power Pistol fall on the 'clean burning' scale?
Lets say compared to Bullseye on the dirty end and WST on the clean end.

Timothy-depending on your goals for using the 200 gn xtp, around 6.0 gns of 231 has produced very good accuracy from 185 or 200 gn jackted bullets.

If you are going for high velocity and accuracy, ya may want to try a slower powder.

WASH UP

Power Pistol, when used in the 45 ACP at +P levels, is 'clean'.

At lowel levels, still 'clean'.
