Make the .50 GI guns reasonably priced and sized, and I'd buy one.

The problem is, that cartridge looks so huge (fat) that I can't imagine the grip is good for hands on the small side?

Plus, since its rare, I bet its expensive to shoot. I'd LOVE to try one out though.

Nahhhh . . . I'll just stick with the .45ACP and moonclips. I hate bending over pickin' up brass from a jam-o-matic "cartridge chucker!";)

Plus, that ol' obsolete .451 caliber bullet makes a big enough hole already!

I hope this round catches on, not because of it's alleged superiority to 45, but because being a big bore fan I like to see gun companies going out on a limb to try something new. Im tired of shrinking barrels and quasi varmint rifle shells being the new best thing since the wonder nine craze. I had my fingers crossed hoping the 10mm took off, too bad it isn't more popular, and cringed when i saw the "fabulous five seven" .I think a useable 50 auto is refreshing. The pistols they make look nice, one model looks similar to an STI style modern 1911 mean and clean, I like the fact that the slide can be converted to 45, but while probably not practical for defense it probably is a great shooter, if anything it's nice to see some innovation in a pistol that doesn't involve plastic for once.

If a major gun MFG could make .50's that have a reasonable weight, accuracy, recoil and ammunition prices--- well that would be attractive. Now have you ever been around a .50 when it is fired? I have, and the noise level is unreal. I can only imagine what it would sound like if you had to use it in your home for defense. The only plus there, is if you hit the BG one shot would do it. A .50 caliber would knock the crap out of a 400 pound gorilla. I would also be a little worried about over penetration which if you are using hollow points is a myth for the normal calibers. But a .50--who knows where that sucker may end up???

This was a .50GI you were around, right? Not a .50 BMG or a .50AE? Because experience with those calibers would be totally irrelevant, like making claims about a .45acp based on having seen a .45-70 in action.

If the .45 were obsolete and the .50 GI wasn't (translate this to reasonably priced and available ammo--I don't reload), I would "upgrade" in a heartbeat.

Until that happens, though, I love my .45s!
