Hey guys,

You should be a bit more respectful. You're replying to one of the "top pistoleros in the world".

Posted by okeydoke
I am still one of the top pistoleros in the world, and the hand to hand instruction I got (300+ hours of 1-4 guys in class, from a 5th dan TKD, 1st Dan Judo man, in Korea) is quite adequate, thank you very much. For instance, I can react, draw from a concealed belt rig, and hit 2 separate 10" disks, at 10 ft, 5 ft between them, any time you care to see it, from hands at shoulder height, in 1.2 seconds. That aint too shabby, considering it's done with a lw commander .45 and full charge loads, from under a shirttail.

I dunno okeydoke, if those comments about your martial arts training are really your feelings or not, but many here have probably logged dojo or dojang time in the thousands of hours with well respected teachers and still have found shortcomings in real world combat. Training is good, keep at it.

This guys starting to sound a lot like somebody that they had a problem with over on Glock Talk and the 1911forum. On GT he went under the name Certainly. Lasted about a week before he was banned. IIRC there was talk at the time that he had been banned at TFL and 1911forum under different names. A couple of recurring threads that pop up with this guy are him going on about how rapidly he can draw/fire/hit a target, and how the best ammo to use in an extremely light bullet at ludicrously high velocities. Couple of folks out in his area looked into him a bit and it turns out he's actually a felon and can't even own a gun.

Not saying that this okeydoke is the same guy, but there's quite the similarity.

Hardin, GunKid, etc.

Same person, can't mistake the posting style. A tremendous amount of information, much emphasis on fractions of a second.

(edited... seeing his paradigm shift from .22LR headshots to 357SIG in a P239 was pretty interesting. Wrote a book on suppression too?)

That's the person krept. GunKid. Couldn't remember his other aliases.

Same posting style too. Massive number of posts for an afternoon or evening, then a gap of a few days, then shows back up and blathers away again.

Dont let some numbnuts turn you off the 460 Rowland...for up here in Alaska its the best overall auto pistol round for big critters in a relaible. carryable package...

Wildalaska??

Does WWG stock ammo and recommend the 460 Rowland for Alaska brownies??????
If someone has used one of your superb custom 1911s on say Kodiak bears as have some of the Cooper 10mm club??
I didn't notice any pics at the WWG website, can you post some?
Thanks! And here I'd pictured all the Alaskan hunters carrying Freedom Arms 454 Casulls or at the very least one of the S&W 44 Magnums? I've corresponded with a couple outfitters up your way and one mentioned you folks kindly, he carrys an LAR though.
Thanks Huge!

I dont think we reccomend any handgun for Brownies...the 460 Rowland is basically equivalent (approx) to the 45 Win Mag, but in a smaller platform. The nice thing about it over a 44 or 454 is that you get 8 shots (and I have a Para so I get 13!)...we have ammo..

.

O yes many do...I have a Mountain Gun myself in 44..

Will have a Rowland Pic up soon...

I don't think anybody is bashing .460 Rowland on its own merits, but comparing it to 10mm is pretty silly. If I was in Alaska, .460 Rowland would probably be the wimpiest caliber I'd own. :D

Old okeydoke would be dead facing a guy with the old fashioned fast draw holster like the old western boys had.......less than 1/4 of a second the experts can draw and fire............

460 Rowland testimonials

Wow, lot's of talk about this round. I have some experience with it. First, while the round is still growing you can pick up a fine one from Wilson Combat. Wilson Combat Hunter http://www.wilsoncombat.com/p_460.asp. Very nice gun and no comp. Next you can pick up a Kimber from Clark Custom for a great price and it includes a .45 ACP barrel for a fast conversion. Clark will also build you whatever you would like of course. I have a STI bar stock slide with a custom melt in comp and a Clark Match fit job on the barrel. It has a Fusion Forged Stainless lower and an Ed Brown Fire control with a Grieder trigger. It has a JPoint sight melted in. The receiver is accurized and has CT laser grips with a Sure Fire light on the tac rail. It is an extremely accurate gun. Load data indicates it will push a 200 grain bullet in excess of 1400 FPS. I feel that is hot but it works well. I however down load to 1300 FPS with Hornady XTP's. It will stop anything my .44 Super Blackhawk will. Ammo is readily available from Georgia arms or Clark Custom. I reload so I purchased 1000 brass cases from Starline. At 1300 FPS it can be reloaded many times. Recoil is a bit more mild than a non comp ACP shooting + p's. I wouldn’t be without it. It is my primary hunting pistol. Deadly to 50 yards.

Yes, Sir, it does beat the 10 mm. The fly in the ointment is what /continued/ use does to the 1911 slide and frame. IF the shooter inspects things, and runs frequent head space checks, not a problem. And, yes, you can spend ~ $250 and upgrade your plinker clunker to a total blaster.

You might even find the .460 easier to shoot than a 10. I do.

I Looked At This Too...

At the time, there was spotty data available on the .460 Rowland, and even the .45 Super, for that matter.

The .460 Rowland certainly dominated the 180 - 185 grain category. Impressive!

Based on the data, my needs, and practical stuff like availability, I decided to pursue 10 mm.

Here (below) were the stats I found...

185 Gr JHP @ 1400 fps

End

I looked at getting a .460 Rowland conversion kit for my 1911. What put me off was the need for a compensator with the 460. I would not want a compensator on a self defense weapon. For hunting it would be a good deal.
I do reload so ammo availability is not a problem.

Who cares?

Ted Nugent has killed more animals in one day with a 10mm than the .460 Rowland has killed in its entire existence.

If someone wants to discuss (to THR standards) the cartridges mentioned in this thread, no problem but let's kill off this old thread, especially since the original poster is serving another stint in the federal pen for another felony and in no way represents the shooting community nor The High Road.
