Now I want one of these! :(

I remember reading about this on another forum a few months ago. IIRC, the ammo was developed from the 30mm rounds the Apache fires. Very, very cool.

So when do y'all think we'll start seeing those in the gunshops? :D

It's made to give light infantry a nice little package to drop technicals and BMPs, which a .50 can do, but not always.

Consider something - this will penetrate 50mm of cold rolled steel, which was the thickness of the front turret armor on a Panzer IV. This is one heck of a tank buster. Is there an APC on the market today whose armor equals that? Only things safe is MBTs, and we have rockets to take care of those. Armored vehicles day may be close to done....
Would you have believed the anti-tank rifle would make a comeback?

To keep muzzle velocity, and thus recoil, down, I think.

Or maybe it was too heavy with a longer barrel?

Why the short barrel? As I recall, the cartridge was develop with a shorter barrel in mind. The 25mm payload caliber is able to be shot from the XM-109 nearly as well as the .50 BMG. It is also considered a light weapon. So, a longer barrel would not have all that much to give unless the shooter wants to shoot beyond 2000 yards. Most foot soldier fighting is well inside that range.

Is the short barrel to reduce wait? Maybe, sort of. No doubt it will be lighter with a shorter barrel, but the gun is still heavier than the larger 82A1.

Does the prospect of touching off a 25mm round with less than 18 inches of barrel ahead of it bother anyone else?

Kind of makes me smile actually.

And having fired a Barret 50, there is a LOT of recoil spring in the stock... it's so heavy that it doesn't really kick that much.

Good point. And add to that the muzzle brake that close...

The M107 will shoot SLAP, right? Does this do something similar to beat that performance?

Uh, do the words "Shaped Charge" mean anything to ya? :)

Look at that brake, it must have one pantload of powder behind it.

Though somehow I think I'll be OK with my M82A1 coming to my doorstep in the next few weeks :)

Actually, Justin, I said you're not an Adobe Garamond kind of guy. There's a difference.
I'm a Galliard Ultra guy :D :D :D

Oh yeah, and thats one heck of a pumkin thrower!!! I'd like very much to shoot a mag full with it!
