Hello Everyone,

I am new to the sport of ultra-long range shooting with a rifle chambered in .50 BMG. I am contemplating the purchase of a factory or custom single shot or bolt action repeater and would like some advice on brands/models based on personal experience.

Thank you for your input.

I'm looking for a complete rifle.

Does anyone have any experience with the LAR Manufacturing's Grizzly?

The LAR's are well built rifles. I just never cared much for the Maadi Griffin clones. My first pics would be a McMillan (very expensive) followed by a State Arms, then an AR-50, in that order.

i have owned barrett (m95) and serbu bfg. I enjoyed both. I wouldn't consider either a "precision" or "match" rifle, although I shot them from 50 yrds to 1000 yrds. barrett has way better customer service. they have also recently opened their uber-cool classes to civilians. take a gander at their website before you buy.

if you just want to make noise and impress your friends, any of them will do.

if i get another one, it'll be the EDM Windrunner.

The LAR Grizzly isn't a bad rifle, it will hold it's own with other rifles on the market. Where it lacks is the trigger and muzzle brake, it's design leaves no room for adjusting the trigger or installing an aftermarket one. The muzzle brake has to be the worst on the market and after a few shots makes you want to put the rifle away for the rest of the day.

What's your price range? Don't forget that your price range needs to include money for a good scope that can handle the recoil impulses from the .50.

If you want to get a rifle that accepts magazines, the Cobb BA50 should fill your bill. The trigger group is interchangable with the AR-15 rifles and it also pins together like an AR. The mag capacity is 10 rds. Oh, forgot the butt stock is also compatible with the AR rifles. Price range of the rifles should be in the mid $4000 area. I have one and really enjoy shooting it. It has a fabulous muzzlebreak and is not a problem to empty 3 mags without any shoulder tenderness.

I've been very happy with my Barrett Model 99. Since I live in California, I've had to switch to the .416 round. While in my opinion not as destructive as a BMG .50 (at shorter ranges), it most certainly is more accurate and will reach WAY out there without any issues. Its a single shooter anyways so I don't mind that at all.
