Looking at several powders for 55gr fmj for a short barrel ar15. Looking at varget, H322, tac, 8208 xbr, imr4166 and good ole H4895 (new temp stable version). The barrel length is 11.5 inch so I feel like I need a fast burning powder. Really want a clean burning temp insensitive powder but proving difficult. Varget is better for heavier bullets from what i understand but only gonna shoot 55-62 gr and it's not really fast burning. My dream powder is a temp insensitive powder and gives good velocity temp insensitive, clean burning and works in 308 and 223 AR15. What y'all thinking

I would look at 2230, exterminator or Re7 myself. Of those listed probably the 8208 as far as temp insensitive powders.

Any of the Hodgdon "Extreme" rifle powders which are claimed to be non sensitive to temp extremes.

Why you want a "fast powder" I have no idea? Rifle powders are mostly slow.

If you are basing that on the same thought that fast powders in a short barrel pistol produce more velocity, then that is false.
Whatever powders produces the fastest velocity in a long barrel will do the same in a short barrel.

That said you are only gonna get the velocity that a 11" barrel can possibly produce.

I have a 10.5" Noveske CQB and a 14.5" Afghan.
I run 24.5gr of IMR 8208 XBR through both of them.
CCI or S&B primers and Hornady 55gr FMJ with cannelure.
The 10.5" is running an H-2 buffer while the 14.5" is running a carbine buffer.

On a side note try some flat base 50gr HP bullets for under 200Y you will be surprised how accurate they shoot.
