I looked and I can find pistol .223 loads and rifle loads, but for the many who have SBR's (10.5" barrel or so), is anyone playing with dedicated loads for these? A friend just got one and wants me to load for him (and teach him to load later).

Would h335 be a better powder than my current Varget? Maybe H322? Just looking for what people have done.

I run the same loads in my SBR's as I do in the others, just know the loss due to length.

It really doesn't matter all that much. If the barrel is to short for the caliber then you get a bigger flash at the muzzle and lower velocity(not due to anything controllable). Pistol and rifle data is the same. There are some powders that will burn faster but in all reality it is not noticeable in your case.

Ok, I will simply have him pick up some 335 and work from that. easier to work with and cheaper too. Plus I am down to my last 8# of Varget and am about to load up a ton for my kids and I.

I have a 223 ar pistol with a pistol length gas system on a 7.5 inch barrel. I worked up a load with IMR 4227 with 55 grain fmj bullets, using the lyman cast bullet book as a guide. It cycled 100% in my gun. I was trying to reduce the muzzle flash, but I havent had the time or warm weather to test at night yet.

Running the .223's out of my 10.5" with Varget at 27.2 grains with a 55 grain bullet, that load gives me pretty decent accuracy at 100 yards. My normal rifle plinking load of 26.0 grains varget and 55 grain bullets does great in my 16" rifle but not so good in the short barrel.

As stated, pistol data and rifle data are the same for .223. Your only option is to load with a powder closer to the fast end of the scale. This will give you a more complete burn in the shorter barrel and higher pressure at the gas port. The difference isn't going to be major, though.
