"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

The ban is illegal, what more needs to be said. Where's the ACLU on this? Why isn't the Mayor in jail or indicted for civil rights violations? What the heck is going on there? Why hasn't Congress started an investigation?

The ban violates the rights of all, maybe if some minorities started complaining somebody might take notice.

These are Democrats (most of them)

This is a Democrat/NRA bill that was hashed out with the leadership (Pelosi)

I believe it repeals the ban on guns holding over 12 rounds

Oh noes. The Democrats will get street cred on the gun control issue as being "reasonable"! Oh well, I guess we will take it anyway.

Is there an infinitesimal chance that this legislation will ever be sent to Bush's desk?

Nope, just being blatantly facetious as they are blatantly full of shizznat.

Don't forget that 50+ Senators and I don't remember how many members of the House - but more than half if I recall correctly - signed on in favor of Heller in a brief to the Supreme Court. While you may think this was a great sign, it was a complete abrogation of their responsibilities. Their obligation under their oaths, if they thought the law in DC was wrong, was to write a law overturning the DC law. As it is, the Supreme Court upheld Heller, for the most part, and overturned the law in DC.

Now only 57 members of the House, so far, sign on to a law that basically re-affirms the ruling of the United States Supreme Court? Now, we know that Pelosi and Clinton would never sign onto such a thing but really, it is the obligation of the entire Congress to sign on to such a bill. 57 is a very disappointingly low number.

My guy John Dingell is, of course, on that list!!:D

He's a VERY unusual Democrat. A serious 2nd Amendment advocate for decades!! You guys name one other Democrat who has been as pro-gun as Dingell?

I'll bet you can't find one!! :p

As to the Bill - go get em' Congress!!

I think Russ Feingold is pretty good.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Feingold

In March 2004, he explained his position in a speech on the Senate floor:
“ I have never accepted the proposition that the gun debate is a black and white issue, a matter of 'you're with us, or you're against us.' Instead, I have followed what I believe is a moderate course, faithful to the Constitution and to the realities of modern society. I believe that the Second Amendment was not an afterthought, that it has meaning today and must be respected. I support the right to bear arms for lawful purposes — for hunting and sport and for self-protection. Millions of Americans own firearms legally and we should not take action that tells them that they are second-class citizens or that their constitutional rights are under attack. At the same time, there are actions we can and should take to protect public safety that do not infringe on constitutional rights."

Ohio's Governor Ted Strickland is a very pro-gun Democrat.
Mr.Dingell has been around longer than anyone in either party,I grant you that.
He's got amazing staying power.Must be the U.P. weather!:)
Also Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska is excellent on gun issues

thats a load of ****.what the hell is wrong with them pulling this **** on good ole americans.this is america and we should have semi auto guns if we want. btw how do i check responses to my threads

I think it is more telling where all these reps are from.
Only 1 from NY out of how many?, none from Mass., none from NJ, only 2 from Calif. out of how many?
All you have are reps that are representing their constituents from Texas, NH, Penn. and other conservative areas. Only 57? No surprises here, only disappointments.

As was mentioned, this is just sponsorship. The support is stronger than these numbers.

For example, Ron Paul isn't on there, but you can be certain if it comes up for a vote he will favor the repeal.

Yeah, but that one, Rep Kirsten E. Gillibrand [NY-20], is my representative.

Good to see that Rep Gillibrand knows who she works for.

Sincerely,

Prof. A. Wickwire
