.577 T-Rex Not many have the shoulder for this rifle

I saw one of these at the range the other weekend. The shooter said it generated something like 150 lb. of free recoil.

There was one for sale at my local range a few years ago. I asked the proprietor to let whoever bought it know that I would pay him $50 just to let me shoot it once. The buyer never took me up on the offer :banghead: Sometimes I wish he had; other times, I'm glad he didn't. :scrutiny:

I can't believe he just dropped that gun!! I bet that gun isn't cheap.

Although I think the gun probably cost a bunch to build, it probably has seen quite a number of drops as displayed on the other videos. It probably has a bunch of dings, dents, scratches, etc. and is used more as a fun gun for heavy recoil newbies to try out and the occasssional dangerous game hunt.

I have seen that before with no mention of the T rex. It was put up as a slam of middleeastern shooting ability.

Us whities don't seem to do a lot better. I've watched all the videos(though they seem down right now) and our dark friend's reaction isn't unusual. Some people at least managed to stay on their feet but many ended up whackin' the glass walls. ;)

I've seen at least a dozen videos from the original site showing all the heavies, (.460 Weatherby, .700 Nitro, etc.) of which the .577 T-Rex seems to be the star. One even showed an American shooting it, and while he didn't drop it, he did mutter something about his Savior. ;)

Yeah, it's usuall posted with a caption like "this is why Palestinians use bombs instead of guns."

One of the videos on that site shows a guy shooting the .577 from the bench three times. He had to be sore after that.

There are a couple of videos showing folks shooting it over the bench. In one of them, it looks like the shooter lost consciousness momentarily from the recoil.

Their website shows the numbers for the .577 if you poke around a bit. The ballistics are quite similar to a .50 BMG, but that thing obviously isn't anywhere near as heavy as a typical .50, nor does it have a muzzle brake as far as I can tell. I wouldn't shoot it.

I haven't seen the videos in a while, but IIRC there was only one man who could handle the big bores and look professional doing it. I think he was a German named Klaus. He made all the others look like amateurs.

I have shot a few heavy kickers but I'm not so sure I could do much with the T-rex.

That particular rifle has 3 mercury filled recoil dampeners in the buttstock.

Actually, I would give it a try just for the heck of it though retinal detachment would be a concern.

I've never shot anything bigger than a 30-06, but I'd love to pull that trigger.
Just once though ;)
Doubling up on the best hearing protection I could get and taking a few asprin first...

I'd imagine something with the ballistics of a 50BMG in a light rifle (comparatively) without a muzzle brake would be just a little uncomfortable.

I have seem that video before but it never gets old. I cannot even begin to imagine what the felt recoil must be like. I like to ty new rifles, but think I would pass on that one.

Ahhhhh, 577 T.Rex my arse.

I used to shoot a 20 pound unmuzzled 50 bmg rifle. Of course I could only handle 3 shots maybe per shooting but hey, everything since then seems like a 22..

Imagine you're a quarterback standing in the pocket, arm back ready to pass, and the strong safety blasts through the line and hits you square on the shoulder with his helmet.

Oh, and you're not wearing pads...

Sounds like fun! :D

Thats not funny at all.

I dont see how someone dropping a gun after shooting it is any laughing matter. He could have seriously injured himself, not only from the recoil itself but from the gun accidently discharging when it hit the ground. Granted, I suppose this is a bolt action rifle and he only had one bullet loaded, so there's no possible way for a mischarge. However, this is by no means "safe gun handling". Furthermore whats the point of owning, shooting, or even being close (to someone shooting) to one of these rifles. Im with the other guy, I wouldn't shoot it.

I don't think you realize the true power of the .577 T Rex. :D The .577 has a muzzle energy approaching that of the .50BMG in some loadings. In a 14(yes, fourteen) pound rifle with no muzzle brake. I'm not sure what kind of bullet they are using but they do list the powder and the velocities. http://www.accuratereloading.com/577tyr.html

MidwayUSA has some bullets for it, around the 750 grain range.

It's always good to see racism and xenophobia crawl up on these boards. I could make an equally distasteful comment, but I will abstain. Just be happy being an idiot.
