does anyone have any experience with 100gr hp 6.5x55 in a 1/8" twist barrel?
I soon will have a 26" barrel and I have already chosen 140gr nosler partitions for deer size game. I was thinking of trying 100gr hp on coyotes. Any suggestions for powder choices. I plan to use Remington primers and would like to have a clean burning powder as well.

223 powders tend to work well in the lighter weight 6.5 rounds, h335, and varget but watch pressure signs sneaking up fast. I stick with my favorite IMR4831. I wouldn't venture lower than 100 grs with that fast twist.

cool, I use h335 for my .222, was considering varget, I have one more loading manual I want to buy. I was considering the powders used by Lapua, since their ammo seems to be considered the plateau for factory ammo.

If you want to use only 1 powder for both bullet weights IMO IMR4831 or H4350 will probably be your best choices. With the 140gr bullet I would definitely use IMR 4831 and with the lighter bullets I think with a 100gr bullet H4350 will give you the best performance and accuracy. You can try H4350, W760/H414, Varget or even Hybrid 100V with lighter bullets in the 6.5X55mm.

I have loaded some 100gr Hornady SP with H414 and CCI mag primers in my 6.5x55, and plan on testing them when the weather breaks. That's a 1in9 twist barrel.

I'm getting ready to load 140 gr. Hornady SP's with H414, one of my favorite powders.... this is for a M96 Swede.

120 grain Sierra Match King bullet, 46.0 grans of RL-19, Lapua brass and a CCI-BR-2 primer. Loaded to a 3.085 inch COL with no crimp.

120 grain Nolser Ballistic Tip, 46.5 grains RL-19, the rest same as above.

If you use a federal Match primer you will have to adjust the load either way by 0.3 grains to find the accuracy sweet spot.

For a 100 grain Sierra Hollow Point, try 46.0 grains of H-4895, a standard Remington primer, Lapua brass and I used a Lee Factory crimp die. It will give you around 3,200 fps.
42.0 to 42.5 grains of Varget will also give you nice tight groups with the 100 grain Sierra or the 100 grain Nosler.

The 6.5x55mm was was made for long bullets and slow powders. The 120 grain Boat-Tails by Nosler and Sierra are fairly long.
I have also had good luck with the Berger VLDs but they are very sensitive to changes in COAL.
Having extra room in the case lets the powder fall into different patterns before being shot and thus creates less accuracy.

I am working of some loads now using H-100V. So far it seems to like shorter barrels and not the longer ones... Go figure.

in my 1896 6.5X55 still with 29 inch barrel shoots 85 grain bullets very accurate and it has the 1/8 twist
