Shooting to wound on a bear is some flawed and bad juju. A warning shot may be viable in some situations and might end an encounter, but when it's time to put steel on target you need to be shooting to kill. Odds are pretty good your shot placement or bullets will under perform in such an encounter, so no sense in stacking the deck against yourself any more than it already is when you're at close quarters with a large predator.
