7.5x55 ammo

I am wanting to go hunting this year with my K31 but i cannot seem to find any hunting ammo for my rifle. Does anybody know where to find any factory loads or will i have to have some loaded up for me? Thanks.

Cabela's sells the Norma 180gr Oryx loads for $47.99 / 20. That's the only commercial hunting load that I'm aware of (of course, I'm frequently wrong.)

Id go with the Hornady loads, at about 20 bucks a box, they are reloadable too. Supposed to be great for deer.

Wolf, Norma, Hornady all make or have made hunting rounds for the 7.5mm swiss. Prvi Partisan also make a round but not sure if they only do fmj or if they do hunting rounds too. I guess you could reload with a .308 bullet.

The Wolf Gold ammo is not made by them, it's relabeled Prvi Partisan made in Serbia.

Also, Cabela's is overpriced. I've gotten Norma for $30/box. And yes, there's Hornady Custom for it, too.

If you reload or can get someone to do it for you, you can choose any .308 bullet you want...that's what's nice about that round.

and if you cant find 7.5x55 brass....284 winchester brass will also work and is stocked by Cabelas and others, you just run it through your 7.5 neck sizer die. The Sierra manual #5 edition has the most compehensive load section for the 7.5x55 swiss

The hornady ammo sounds like what id be interested in, ive always had good luck with it. Where does a fella find a place that sells the hornady ammo?

+1 on the 284 Winchester through the sizing die. Easiest way to get 7.5 brass. Be sure to use the 284 shell holder or else you are gona be trying to get that stuck case out of your die. Also be sure to use plenty of lube in the case neck area.

Hunting with a K-31 is a GREAT excuse to get into handloading.

Use any .308 hunting bullet. I took my first hog with my K-31, shooting a 150gr. Sierra Gameking over 43gr. of H335, lit by a CCI 250 primer.

IMHO, handloading is no harder than making good eggs for breakfast.

Im not into reloading yet, but im workin on it. I have a small building about 14'x8' that i am fixin up to put all of my gun and hunting stuff in and also set myself up to reload. So hopefully soon i will be able to play with reloading, in the mean time i just want to buy a box to get me through the season.

Until you reload your best bets are the Wolf SP's at www.aimsurplus.com or go to www.grafs.com . Graf's currently show 3 varieties in my dealer catalog for 7.5 swiss. 150gr SST (ballistic tip) 165grBTSP and a 168gr A-max load, cost for regular consumer is probably slightly over $20/box, the Wolf is a good bit cheaper. And definetly keep the brass, it is reloadable and boxer-primed 7.5 brass is hard to comeby. You need to get into reloading, I've said before that the K31 is worth it alone to start reloading. I've had good luck with the 165gr SST Hornady bullet.

The fact that the 7.5x55 bullet is .308 diameter makes reloading a really easy sell. The bullets are widely available, and in a fantastic variety of exotic weights and models, most of which are geared to hunting.

Weight seems to be the biggest stumbling block before widespread use of K-31 rifles for hunting.

That doesn't work for me. I run it through the 7.5 full length sizer die, which sets the shoulder back just a little. If I only neck-size it, the bolt won't close all the way, so it won't fire.

I still really can't figure why people order anything from Cabelas. It's like shopping for full retail price clothes in a department store, same stuff, massive markup on just about every item I've ever priced via their catalog.

Never ordered from Cabela's ...They have a store 10 minutes from my house,
and are comprable to any other store in the Dallas /Ft Worth area pricewise on reloading componants.(i do comparison shop) I have a dealer account with Midway, and actually get some things cheaper at the Cabela's
store, and thats not even factoring shipping costs.
I have "Cheaper than Dirt" 20 minutes away in the other direction for most loaded ammo purchases.
