7.62 x 39 is less expensive than .22LR

When I was at a gun show this weekend, people were asking $80 a brick for remington bricks. One guy was selling 7.62x39 for 500 rounds. It saddens me that it was one of the best deals I've seen in a while.

You're missing the point, Carl. That's all that they have.

Missed it by that much. OK, missed the point by a mile. Checking distributors this morning, I find the local distributor is "out of stock" on all 24 varieties regularly carried. Even CCI shotshells which were in stock a while back. An out-of-state distributer is showing "sold out" on all but 1980s Czech surplus .22LR (EDIT: I rechecked and that is gone now! Within an hour!). The third distributer I bothered to check lists only Eley Edge at $11.94 per 50 and Eley Tenex at $19.86 per 50 (but ships from an alternate warehouse). What a reality check. The end of the panic and shortage has been prematurely reported.

Bought a few bricks of federal 711b a couple weeks back . Paid $4.60 and box. Not much more than 2 years ago. But there sold out again.

I still see 22's at wal mart now and then, the price is the same as it was before, or only slightly higher. CCI Mini mags were the most expensive at $7-something per hundred.

Here, just stolling by the gun case wouldnt turn up any 22 ammo, most I've seen was still in the cases on the floor behind the counter, (hadn't been stocked on the shelves yet) or still on pallets that the sporting goods people didnt even know was there until I pointed them out.

.
That .32/rd Eley stuff is what's used at the Olympics. lol.

I'm in Los Angeles. Last weekend, a local "remanufacturer" of quality ammo had another one of their parking lot sales. They sell their reloads and they sell name-brand, new ammunition too.

Remington bulk .22 was selling iirc for about .10/rd. The Eley match grade .22 was priced equivalent to .36/rd.

New Fiocchi 7.62 X 39 was priced around .60/rd, down from the last batch I purchased 3 or 4 months ago.

It sure is crazy, but thats the situation nowdays. At least the up side to the current rush is that it was to arm the citizens......oh ya.

22lr is cheaper than x39, if its in stock. I bought Fed Automatch from Natchezss a week ago for $18/brick. Many others have been reporting seeing 22lr locally for normal price.

Eley Target is not high end. It is one of their lower priced ammos. It should be about $60 a brick.
Yes, this line of Eley typically runs about $6 to $7 a box of 50. Lucky Gunner is also not a very good retailer to use for comparison purposes as they are pretty much up there with Cheaper Than Dirt.

Eley Target @ Lucky Gunner

Eley Target @ Midway

While neither has the stuff in stock there is one heck of a price difference between the two for the same stuff. Also, as mentioned the Eley target linked to is not high end but rather sort of entry level .22 LR match ammunition. Here is an example of the Eley Tenex from Midway:

Eley Tenex From Midway.

Gets a little pricey. :)

Anyway, all of this is rather moot as nobody seems to have the stuff right now. :(

My best luck has been Gander Mountain locally for ammunition. That includes .22 LR (the basic stuff) and for those who want it 7.62X39 stuff.

I can't figure why prices are so high, in an international world.
In europe, prices gone up with normal index and there is no shortage in 22lr , not in any brand. Federal champion 2€/50, via geco, 2.5 €/50 up unto SK match ammo, 88€/1000, German, Luxemburg and Suisse prices are even better

Seems to be a handlers choice to earn inapropriote amounts of money

Lets hope Putin gets really PO'd at Obama ad floods the U.S. market with cheap Russian ammo!

I'd wager Europeans shoot a whole lot less that do Americans, less demand, means better prices and adequate supplies.

I can't figure why prices are so high,...

"Prices" per se, at the wholesale level haven't really gone up. People are charging more within the supply lines after it comes from the factory, in the wholesale supply lines and at retail and re-retail. The re-retail is probably one of the main reasons it's as high as it is in some places, the regular priced stuff has been bought off the shelves, depriving many people of regular priced ammo, and resold for much more, forcing people that can't find ammo through regular outlets to pay more than the actual price is through the supply line. The crazy level of buying both responds to the high prices and feeds them.

The price hasnt gone up in other places because people aren't panic buying and reselling. The factories are no doubt continueing to supply their regular contracts all over, for the normal price.
