7.62x39 bolt action finally getting some legs

We think a lot alike, and I've had similar experiences. If I'm going to deer hunt with the 7.62x39, I will keep the shots inside 150 and maayyybe stretch one to 200 if the conditions are just right (my hand loads easily carry 1K ft. lbs. and are 1900 fps at 200 yards). However the added range the 6.5G might provide in the same platform is tempting. I'd have to shoot them both to really know though.

Getting closer... :D

Been shooting my Howa Mini 7.62x39 for a while now, and it's 6.5 Grendel brother is on it's way. A side-by-side test at the range will be a lot of fun.

That's current commercial production Serbian ammo; good stuff. A long, long way from expired milsurp Combloc "go-bang" ammunition that wasn't particularly consistent even when it was new.
I understand. For $5.99/box, I ain't complaining!

M77 Hawkeye Compact. Makes you RARs look ugly in comparison.

I had a M77 MKII in 7.62x39 and it did not shoot as good as my RAR. The RAR was done right and just plain works. No knocks on the MKII/Hawkeye, but the RAR is a better set up for shooting cheap ammo and correctly sized 7.62x39 reloads or factory.
