I just got myself a Norinco SKS yesterday (it's a beaut) and I need to find some ammo to take to the range with me. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get a large quantity of non-corrosive 7.62x39. I was looking at Ammoman.com where they have 1000 rounds for $179 shipped. Is this a good deal or should I look elsewhere? The highest quality ammo isn't neccessary since I just want to throw a bunch of rounds out and get used to the rifle.

P.S. If it came on stripper clips that would rock.

I've purchased 7.62x39 from Ammoman before. No problem at all. Placed the order and the big brown truck delivered it two days later.

check out www.the-armory.com they normally run pretty good deals and thier shipping charges ain't that bad either.
congrats on th gun. i have found that the wolf 154gr sp's are the most accurate in my norinco sks, they cost a few dollars more but they feed good and are accurate.

A gun show down here last weekend had quite a bit of Wolf available. That vendor even had some 5.45 (on Sunday afternoon). Hard to say if you will get a better price at a gun show or not. I think it depends on the vendor and his competition.

I was just at a gun show yesterday, and the ammo I saw was slightly overpriced. Example: A brick of .22LR Thunderbolt ammo was priced there at around $12. I can get the same brick at Wally World or elsewhere for $10-$11. For that reason, I'd suggest against buying ammo at a gun show, unless you're lucky and you find an awesome deal.

Here in Va it jumps around a bit. Buying .22 at a gun show is stupid. They want between $12 and $16 for the same brick you can buy for $10 at any local store.

.40 S&W (home defense type) $20-25 in the store, $14 at the show, good deal
.40 S&W (practice ammo) $13 in the store, $17 at the show. Not a deal.

7.62x39 at the show $170 for 1,000 rounds. Good deal as I can't find it locally for love or money right now.

The thing I've been finding wildly varied prices on lately is .357 Magnum! I saw a box (20 rounds) of home defense stuff for $35! ($1.75 a ROUND!)

1.5 months ago i bought 1,000 rounds of WOLF 7.62x39 for $160 at a gun show.:neener:

just look around at the show you can usally get good deals

Dunhams just ran a sale on Wolf, $2.99 for a box of 20.

The interaction went something like this:

Me: "How much of it do you have?"

Salesdrone: "Oh, we have plenty. This sleeve here is, uh, like, uh, 500 rounds, and this box is a thousand. There's more in the back."

Me: "How much do you have in the back?"

Him: "Uh...I...can...look, I guess- you want more than a thousand?"

Me: "How many thousand do you have in the back?"

The sad part is that last year that would be a so-so price. Of late, though, it is pretty good.

I hear ya Coronach, I bought 500 rounds at a GS around 8 or 9 months ago for $65 and I thought it was "so-so". Wish I would've bought a few K. :(

Success!!!

Well I waited it out and was able to get 1600 rounds of Wolf ammo for $200 on Gunbroker. Also, I can pick it up here in Virginia :D

Oh poo...a chance to go to my first THR event but I have to be in southern Missouri on a business trip :fire:
