I don't see why people get all tweaked about CTD offering ammo at high prices. If they were really overpriced people would have bought at other stores. If everyone was overpriced... well that was just the fact of the market at that point.

Big5 wanted $18 + tax for a box of 20 7.62x39 a couple weeks ago. I couldn't believe it. Granted, they weren't cheap surplus rounds (I think they were Remington?) but geez, after tax that's a buck a round.

would rather deal with AIM or classicarms. CTD fueled the panic and have horrid customer service in my experience.

US-made, brass cased 7.62x39mm has never been cheap and always close to the price of .308 Winchester, sometimes even above it. Since many local stores sell .308 for $20+/box of 20, the price quoted doesn't shock me.

Yeah, CTD is pretty awful. They are some of the worst gougers around. They won't get my business either. This whole little fake shortage and scare created by the gun business was sickening. What's downright hilarious is that some dealers are still trying to pretend there is one, and even worse, some people still buying into it!

Cabelas last week had new manufactured, non-corrosive Russian (forgot the brand; its all the same for me) for $4.49/box; Had Brown Bear for $5.50/box. I got there after day 5 of the sale and there was tons on the shelf. I'm also seeing my dealers stocks of 9mm sitting week after week unsold at $16/box. Seems like things are "easing up".

I was going to buy a bunch of 12g 00 buck from CTD this week until I reached the checkout and they wanted $30 for shipping.

Cabelas had a two-week sale on non-corrosive Russian Ulyanovsk 7.62x39 at $4.49 a box that unfortunately ended yesterday. Has to be what phrogpilot was talking about above. Wasn't planning to get any more but then got two Cabelas $10 off coupons in the mail yesterday. Since I was nearby at Best Buy last night anyway I went in and picked up 25 more boxes, using two coupons which brought it down to about 500rds for $100 out the door. 20 cents a round including tax/shipping ain't bad. They've had this sale a couple times since Thanksgiving and could again.

It's pretty much Wolf steel jacket 122 grain and my WASR loves the stuff...

Oh, and for anyone who thinks Cheaper Than Dirt isn't a bunch of fearmongers, here's a little gem off their new $2,399.00 (yes you read that right, and that's not including the $150 shipping for it) 30-day survival kit page

Emergency and Survival Kits - When an emergency hits, we don't always have enough warning to prepare for it. The movie 2012 released on November 13, describes what could potentially happen on 12/21/2012 based on the end of the Ancient Mayan calendar. Throughout history, the Mayan calendar correctly identified evolutionary events. According to the calendar we are now in the Fourth and Final age. Whether you believe or not, it still makes you think, what if all the electronics suddenly stopped working, (people would be saved from your stupid price gouging)an asteroid struck the earth, sunspots erase magnetic stored data, a flu pandemic effected millions, would you be able to survive with what you currently have. Fortunately you have time to prepare and we have taken the guess work out of it for you.

That is priceless: using a Hollywood movie as a prediction for what could happen in 2012. What a load of junk. That might work on children, but any rational adult can see right through it. If I had ever trusted that site...that right there would do it for me.

I'd love a link to that The Dark Knight, so I can marvel at it myself :D

Ive neverordered from Brownells, but i can tell you that of all of the major online retails have cheaper shipping than CTD. I was going to buy ammo from them a while back and they wanted $25 to ship it. Ill take my business to Natchez and pay less than $10 for shipping, thanks.

Forget Cheaper Than Dirt, they are dirt as far as I'm concerned.

They attempted to tke ridiculous advantage of the ammo shortage at the time.

Also their bizarre claims of accuracy for some horribly overpriced ammo reminded me of JC Whitney (this magnetic collar on your fuel line increases mileage by up to 20%!)

I've dealt with AIM a few times, and I'd buy from them again.

Sportsmansguide has 7.62x39 for $275/1000. If I didn't already have 2500 rounds on hand, I'd order some more. I bought mine at $175/1000.:)

CTD had a 20 round box of 7.62x39 at $30+ right after the scare.

You weren't dumb enough to buy it then, were you?

I've no complaint about their service, way better than average actually. When they have the best price I buy, when they don't I buy from who does.

Brown Bear .308 FMJ for $7 a box is pretty darn good right now too, seeing that at Academy their Monarch .308 is $9/a box.

You got to factor in price + shipping whenever you shop. Obviously on a few boxes Academy will be cheaper.

Dunhams has Wolf 7.62x39 on sale for $3.99/box of 20. Horrible prices from what it used to be, decent for what it has become.

I wrote a few threads on CTD prices being obscene, and I feel vindicated with this thread. I'm glad to see you folks with some backbone. I called CTD and tried to tell them that we were laughing at them at the time, and they didn't care. I'm emailing them a link to this thread tomorrow, and can't wait to see what they say.

Other than that, I've been finding 7.63 * 39 much cheaper lately, still hard to find here in Phoenix, but still much cheaper.

Samco Global.com out of Miami--brass Priva Partisan-.26cents a round-have shot a truck load thru a couple Mak 90's-all went bang.

BECAUSE THEY SCREWED US! It was an artificial crisis, and think of Rahm Emanuel, "Never let a crisis go to waste.". They contributed to a false economic disaster for us gun lovers, and they were not alone. A few other companies are also on the list. We promised that we would never support a company with such low affinity for our lifestyle.

For me the only thing CTD is good for any more is the magazine to look through. Doesnt matter if people bought the ammo or not when they raised prices to those ridiculous prices. Other companys such as AIMsurplus and classicarms kept their prices down. CTD shouldnt of done that to their customers. Anyways, Wolfs been only $5 at dunhams $6-8 dollars is what it ranges to.

Wally, I definitely did not buy at that price. I made sure to write down who gigged their customers. I refuse to buy from CTD ever again. I used to be a regular customer but they can go eat a donkey ****.

Glad to see that I am not the only one who feels that way about CTD. I don't even read the catalog anymore. I didn't see anyone else nearly as bad during the whole shortage. Used to buy from them, but never again.

I'll probably never do business with CTD because they tried to screw gun owners, I'm simply going to try to return the favor.

EDIT:
I have not done business with online businesses that want my DL for ammo purchase as well. I'm just willing to pay a little more to avoid the extra hassle if need be, most of my 7.62 comes from Sportsman's Guide.
